Planetside
<div class="IPBDescription">Hold thine tongue</div> I realize some of you may not like this game, but I DO; so NYEAH!
Anyone else play it? Unfortunatly I can only play on weekends atm, but I've got some fun ideas that require a squad of people I can actually work with :/
Anyone up for it? Any TR's on Emerald?

i opened the door
and fell into the water -.-"
anyways.. tjat was lik e a year ago...
Then we lost it all when we took a break for snacks. Go figure.
If you join us NC on Markov, I can get you suited up in Planetside's largest outfit. You'll NEVER have to form a squad of noobs again. Your BR will shoot up so fast in a single setting you'll be amazed.
To prove I'm not BS'ing, look at the top story on www.planetside.com
Gamespot did a feature on us.
If you decide to do so, send me a tell.
My playername is 2of12BORG
I play under the name "DY357LX" (duh! :-P) on the Werner server.
I'm also a Vanu member ::High 5's Renegade::
<a href='http://homepage.ntlworld.com/pete.taylor2/PlanetSide/' target='_blank'>Screenshots... Woo!</a>
I also use TeamSpeak with a group of 4/5 friends when we play
it to make the experience even more fun.
If you play on Werner as part of the VS then feel free to PM
me if you'd like to join in on the activities.

Aren't you required to sign up after your time expires?
Big outfits = millions of zergs yes. But the noobs aren't the ones running squads and platoons.
Whenever I log on, usually around the same time each day, I always know of 15-20 people who ALWAYS run squads/platoons. The same people each day. Including myself.
And you want to talk about organization? Every saturday at 4pm PST is our covert operation. We gather up, fool around, and then conquer everything possible. Here is last weeks:

We even jacked some of your magriders in this one! (I think they are called magriders)

Edit: Also this looks pretty good... <a href='http://planetside.station.sony.com/corecombat/' target='_blank'>http://planetside.station.sony.com/corecombat/</a>
I'm in England, so if there's anyone on an english/european server who knows a good outfit/clan/whatever theyre called, let me know, and tell me which server you're on.
Yea, I realised that, and the weapons .. bleh..... PS seems a LOT better this go around though... even though it has a smaller community than it did in the beta.
Glad I didn't buy it though, just not worth it, IMO.
As well, there are several very BAD aspects of RPGs filtering into PS... especially SONY made RPGs:
- Updates will be classified as "Expansions", giving $ony the right to gouge you in the eyeball when they want to put in new features.
- Sloooow gameplay without squads
- Hard to find anyone in your platoon/outfit (Hey, is that guy from my platoon?)
- Dont even know if some things have/have not been implemented
- Some weapons' only counter is the armor you neglected to certify
- Terribly slow trying to get ANYWHERE on foot. ATV cert is almost REQUIRED if you want to go solo. (ATVs are the "cheapest" and fastest vehicles for their cost in certification points)
- Bugs cause massive problems for all the players (server crashing bugs destroy COUNTLESS hours of people's gameplay time)
- Along the issue of bugs, some weapons can and ARE be imballanced or simply kill too damn fast (Vanu Lasher, anyone?)
- Not every choice you make in your cert selections will put you on a fair and even path; getting good armor and weapons or powerful vehicles seem to be the fastest way of getting xp, while getting stealth like things seems to be the worst choice
- <i>Very</i> borring outside of combat
- <b>People can and <i>will</i> spawn kill you</b>
However, Planetside can be enjoyable if you get the "correct" things ... A Reinforced exo suit with your side's best weapons or the fastest or most deadly vehicles will give you LOTS of xp quickly. And as for the frame rate issue, make sure you've turned off all the "eye candy" - things like grass dont get viewed beyond a certain distance, so it's useless to have the option turned on or even there, for that matter. Having a good or excellent video card is a BIG help, too. (ATI Radion 9200 Pro w/ latest drivers and DirectX 9, baby!!!) And the game CAN be fun... Giving everyone in your Deliverer a good scare when you drive into the water is always hilarious! (Deliverers can float, however, the other ground transport - the Sunderer - cannot) running people over is always a good way to get exp, too.

See the guys with gold and purple names? Those are members of your squad/platoon. NOT hard to differentiate. Anybody not in your squad is green.
Each person in your squad/platoon is assigned a color and number when they enter your squad/platoon, and when you bring up your map, they are represented by their respective number/color. Not difficult at all.

In my 3 months of playing planetside, I have yet to see the server crash. And the one bug that I came across involved my aircraft. When I entered the aircraft, it was equipped with only 1 single bullet.
As far as destroying hours of playing time, that is not true either, because the frequency that your character is saved is extremely often and not spaced but 1-2 minutes apart.

The Vanu lasher kills just as quickly as the other 2 empire's respective heavy assault weapons. I can also guarantee you that if you were vanu with a lasher against my NC jackhammer, I could kill you much faster.
Tired of getting killed by the lasher? Pick one up and rape with it then. I do it all the time. My lockers are full of Terran chainguns and Vanu Lashers. ( I am New Conglomerate btw.)

Not true at all. You pick how you want to play the game. I have a stealth/hacker/combat engineer/medic character. I kill very little. I am still ranked high. You do know that you get exp for things other than killing?

My Battle Rank 17 character does not have reinforced exo suit. Nor will he ever. While I don't disagree with that thought, it is not at all necessary.

9800XT with 180 FPS in planetside with all eyecandy at highest, BABY!!!
Planetside is not all about killing. While some of your post is true, other parts are not. This game can be played however you see fit. You can be a roughneck and try and get in everybody's face with mad weaponry and vehicles, or you can be a sneaky **** that helps turn the tides to your empire with that facility hack that went undetected.
*goes to download*
Also, what the hell happened to the sunderers in your first screen?

Which is all well and good, but I'm pretty sure you don't have a monitor with 180hz refresh rate <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Also, the balance issues are still terrible. Magriders are vastly superior to Vanguards now, simply because those playing for a while actually know how to use a magrider: just strafe around a lot, the arcing projectile has NOTHING on a hitscan tank weapon. They both take about the same shots to kill, and the fact that the magrider is a much harder to hit target means it can easilly best a vangaurd.
Also, Jackhammers are all fine and good if you somehow manage to get within three inches of your enemy (I know, I fought quite hard on the forums to save the Jackhammer from TR whinage.)
I have to put this game pretty high on my "I wish I had spent my time playing something else" meter. A crappy community, repetitive and uninspiring gameplay, and "advanced tactics" that consist of simply zerging everything got real old real fast.

The thing is, with the "repetitive" thing, it's the EXACT same with EVERY game out there, eventually it WILL get repetitive, hell even in NS I see the EXACT thing happen over and over. Except in PS you're actually getting higher in rank, getting better stuff, ect, in round based games, you win, round starts over, everythings gone.
Spam? Pfftt, I havn't seen any spam when it comes to outfits, yes squads will want to "spam" you when you broadcast "looking for squad" because they wanna get ready and move out right then.
Nabbed a MAX pilot (ULTRA-fast EXP gain, mowing down footsoldiers), Reaver/Galaxy pilot (not quite as fast EXP-wise, but people love you if you run as distraction on a base assault), and Adv. Hacker. Tried being an Engineer on the east coast server, but it seemed to give NO exp reward, and just had magriders lining up begging for repairs. Which is fine.. if they're a part of your Squad. Most weren't. :b
And spawncamping is expected. Hell, they tell you as a part of the TRAINING module to expect it when a base comes under siege, and to pick another respawn point so you won't keep getting mowed down by the enemy troops. Capture and hold, baby. Part of that is keeping reinforcements from getting to the base you're taking over.
Did my 30-day trial back when they had it, got disillusioned, cancelled the subscription before they re-charged me. Might drop back in to play with folks from here, but only if they kept my old characters. Probably not. :b
Much rather get into something like EVE Online (friends play it, and I have a fun RP character concept to try), FFXI (I really don't want to pay $50 just to try a game I may HATE), or SWG... though I would prefer not to do jobs like 'shoot this pile of rocks 50 miles from here'. The tedium of MMORPGs gets old VERY quickly.
I played the beta all the way to 3months after release, i used to be one of the best hackers(not in a bad way people, its a class) id run into a cc with cloak on, throw a jammer nade so their implants wont work, turn on melee boost implant, and kill them 1 at a time.
then i got bored of that, so i was like ill just own with the jackhammer(tri barreld shotty) i would use audio implant and see footsteps on my radar and kill the damn cloakers. planet side is alot of fun, id love to get back into it but i gots no job.
