Evil_BurritoEvil_Burrito Join Date: 2003-11-26 Member: 23607Members
I downloaded NS v3.0 from redphive. After the download was complete I attampted to open it. It gave me the following error message: "The setup files are corrupt. Please obtain a new copy of the program." I tried downloading again. I got the same results. I have tried to dl it from redphive, file front, fileplanet, ausgamers, and a couple others. The same thing happened.
Information:
connection: cox cable
ISP: Internet Explorer
OS: Windows 98b
I am not using and download managers
If I forgot anything don't hesitate to ask. I would really like to NS running again.

are you using a broadband router? sometimes these devices are poorly built (like my old dlink) and they corrupt downloads. Try hooking your cable modem directly to your computer and make sure dhcp or w/e your isp uses for IP settings.

    Tried using a D/L accelerator? (Not DAP, it smells..) Use Getright (www.getright.com)! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

ok,if the problem is with the first one, folow my directions just use this link for the download instead:
    <a href='http://www.nonoobs.com/ns_install_v3_b1.exe.torrent' target='_blank'>http://www.nonoobs.com/ns_install_v3_b1.exe.torrent</a>

    here is the deal:

BT Will literaly NOT let you download bad segments, it will error check as it downloads each piece and if you get a bad segment it will relodwnload it.

If you want an explenation of the theory behind it:

Basicaly BT is one of the best p2p file sharing systems out there.
Yuo have one person host the file off of their computer, and then post a .torrent of it (those 2 links).
The .torrent contains the checksum for it and just what SHOULD be in the file (thus you CAN'T download bad segments).

Now you start download segments from the seeder (first person) and you become a leacher.

once mroe people join the download they will download segments from any one who has a full segment (so this includes other leachers and the seeder).
Once some one finishes the download they are now a seeder (thus speeding up the process for every one else, now that there are multiple seeders)

Also your Download rate is restricted by your upload rate (thus the more you share the more you get).

This system also relies on good harted people keeping their downloads open after they finished the download them selfs (so that others can continue downloading)

BT is GENERALY ussed for illegal purposes (I admit I do so), however it is GREAT for quickly distributing large legal files (forinstance NS <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->)

If you have any more questions feel free to ask (or just google it <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->)
