[req] Alien World Map

<div class="IPBDescription">Like in half life...</div> I started up a game of half life, just because i was really bored <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->. Anyway, i took a screenshot of the alien world you are teleported to as the 'resonance cascade' is taking place, and i think this would be a great idea for an ns map.

(sorry if someone has suggested this before, i did a quick search)

    An alien map would be kinda cool, but it wouldnt make much sense unless the aliens could start will all the hives. Also, how would the nanites work for the commander?

    Maybe a siege map with an alien theme...

    With big wide open spaces, the aliens would get slaughtered by the guns.

    Perhaps a more closed environment would balance it better?

    Not a bad idea, anything is always worth suggesting.. Get a forum admin to phase this to the mapping section though, thats where it should belong.

    yes i know. But as you can see, there appears to be a tunnel complex in the background, the open areas would just be for hives/marine start. The HL engine doesnt support open spaces very well either. Grass or some sort of thick plant-like lifeforms could be added so skulks have cover.

    You know HL actually isn't that bad at open areas at all if you've got any sort of understanding of vis. I think you'd be amazed at what is possible.

    Altho Flayra Hates Zen, if a good map is good, then there is no denying it.
    The 3 Hive problem could be easily worked around, with simple Storyline techiques.
    Something like, Marines have been fighting an ongoing war, strategic points have been made. Now its the finalchapter of the War..blah blah blah.
    Just cos its the Alien Homeplanet..does not mean they have to have 3 hives. Marines could have been there for some time and destroyed vital factions..etc etc.

    I think if it could be done well, it would be very different. A new angle of NS could be Created <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    I actually quite like the look of Xen, nice textures from Valve. Not really sure if it suits the NS alien theme though...

    OH I thought of a solution to the nanite problem. Maybe have sort of RND units (Remote Nanite Deployment units, I just made that up <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->). They could be sort of small units scattered around the map, something the marines setup during their battle there.

    They wouldnt be attackable or anything, they'd just be map objects, but it would add something to it.

    These nanite things are very made-up IYAM. Given that marines can already teleport in to and around the levels, wouldn't it make more sense to just have the buildings teleported in?

    Maybe have it as if the tsa dropped some missile/ship things from orbit onto the battlefield, these would have a res node inside for tactical use of the tsa and also give a reason as to why you can build.

    i think how this could be done is that the marines dropped in the comm chair and res points (call them resource reserves) like the end of the halo 2 e3 video, in those little pods. HOWEVER, only the comm chair and one res pod actually landed at the right place, ie marine start, the rest drifted off course (alien winds or something), and landed around the map. I'd really like to see a map set on the kharaa homeworld, it just needs some nice looking creatures (like the big plant things in the pic you've supplied), that are unique to NS
