I think that Wookie and the lot are arguing for the sake of arguing and really not in the least talking about NS the game except in passing. This is what happens when you have too much time on your hands.

I'm not, the original argument consisted of vague historical references and unsubstantiated claims. When disproved, the guy attacks the person and their beliefs, rather than the argument. Add a helping of extravagant language, to create the impression that the guy knows what he's talking about.

Simplified, the thread is basically like this...

"Why do you say natural selection is related to communism?"
"Because I said it is"
"But it isn't..."
"Are you disagreeing with me?! COMMUNIST!"
"Hes right!!"<-- (wookie's obvious lackey).

Actually if you look at the marines they're quite communistic (is that even a word? meh <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /> ). They have a communal pool of resources and are forced to follow the orders of a single leader who was not elected. All marines are meant to work for the good of the team, not the individual. Choice is irrelvant; you must move to your waypoint.

Whereas the aliens are much more democratic/capitalist. Individualism counts for much more; resources are alocated out to seperate lifeforms who can use them as they see fit. Leaders emerge from group concensus, and will only retain that rank if they perform well. Teamwork is not forced upon the aliens, and indeed they can work well as individuals.

Yet we are ment to believe that the aliens are the evil ones, whilst the marines are the "good guys". Where in fact, the aliens are the proud sons of Liberty and Freedom yearing to overthrow the corrupt socialist dictatorship of the TSA. Around the galaxy, countless billions are enslaved to the singular will of the TSA leadership, forced to work ceaselessly for little pay. Deprived of human rights, dignity and freedom, they must fight against those who seek to liberate them. Why do they seek to destroy those who would make them free? They have been brainwashed, broken mentally by a program known only as Natural Selection. The name of this insipid computer virus is no doubt a tribute to the godless communists and their belief in "evolution". Within this program, which all citizens are forced to play 6 hours a day, the Kharaa are portrayed as the evil and the TSA as the saviours of humanity.

Nothing could be further from the truth! Friends, by coming into this forum and posting this I have no doubt doomed myself. But you have been given the chance. When next the TSA forces a gun into your hands to shoot an innocent alien, see past the mental conditioning! See your foe for what he is: a kind, thoughtful individual who is risking his life to free you. Turn your guns against those who would crush the spirit of freedom within. Do not be denied your rights any longer!

Marines of the TSA, unite! You have nothing to lose but your res!

The aliens haven't acctually been very capitalist since 2.0, the basic princible of capatalism is allow the rich to do whatever they want (1.4 gorge), and get the poor to make more money for the rich. The aliens in ns would are actually extream socialists. Everyone gets an equal ammout of money, but if you are REALLY good at what you do you get a little bit more. luckly the government doesn't keep any of the money because hives have extreamly low maintinence costs.

Although he may seem serious, it is in all probability a front to get a rise out of anyone and everyone he can, to the end of him wetting himself with sheer laughter.

He's intelligent enough to make his arguments look plausible on the surface but anyone with an IQ higher then, say, 85, can see that his arguments are nothing but smoke and mirrors.

Strange. A communist known as Korolev (AKA, "The Chief Designer"), leader of the russian space program for some time actually used this technique quite a bit. The first woman in space may have been an achievment but there were many complications (Reference, The Race by James Schefter). The russian space program was mainly made of smoke and mirrors. Every success as magnified a thousand times, every mistake kept quiet.

This guy uses the same technique. He blusters his main points and the sweeps away the fallaciousness of his arguments with large words and a torrent of writing that has nothing to do with the topic at hand.

He must be a communist sympathizer in denial <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' />

My advice? Take this in the form it is likely to have been given in. Laugh at it and get on with your life.

I havent read all that, but from the look of The_Wookies first post in that thread, it seems he's just commenting on the theory of Natural Selection based on Charles Darwins work, and nothing on the Game.

No no, Wookie has made his opinion on NS (the Game) very clear at both <a href='http://valhalla.net.au/' target='_blank'>Valhalla</a> and in #valhalla on oz.org. He was very opposed to having the $500 NS comp last LAN, and disappointingly it got cancelled on the day.

Perhaps I would have been more convinced of the worth of the game, if more than two clans rocked up to the event.....

As it is I am convinced now more than ever that NS and communism go hand in hand, and I for one am waging a one man, singe landed effort to stop the spread of this disease, marketed as Natural Selection (incidentally any of my posts mentioning NS, or Natural Selection refer to the game no the theory) before it starts another cold war between the righteous right, and the commies. It'll be 'nam all over again.
