    Compile a map without leaks. The portal file is output by the BSP process.

    i think what Plaguebearer means, is you must compile in certain steps. Check the newbie mapping forum from above the stickied threads.

    we need a little more info then that... Are there any errors following it, does it occur after doing any specific task (build vis leafs, csgbrush etc etc)
    You may not have all your paths to your compile tools set correctly, check that

    Note: Everytime I see somone use a number as part of a word (a sound not a letter) a part of me dies.

    Putting parentheses in your map name may be munging the compile.

    CSG takes no time at all. 0.00 mb texture usage... That seems just slightly weird to me. How big is your map? If it's any more complicated than "NS_box-without- anything" i would suggest reinstalling the compile tools. Get the newest version from the FAQ.

    i just want to mension that when i try to compile it with hammer, hammer just closes, and when i try to export it to .map hammer closes 2 so my .map file is 0kb

    about the texture thing ur talking about, it's cause my map is only 3 rooms now i just wanted to see how they look with lights

    could all this be because i used hammer.exe verison 3.5 the beta not 3.4 ?

    If your .MAP file is 0kb then there's nothing for CSG to work with. If there's nothing for CSG to work with then it cannot create a .PRT file. If there's no .PRT file then VIS has nothing to work with.

    Find out what's wrong with your install of Hammer, because that's the main issue. If you can't export a proper .MAP file you will get nowhere.

    Try saving as an .rmf, then there are some tools that convert .rmf to .map, to address alot of issues VHE has with exporting to the .map file type.

    You should read more and know more about mapping and compiling before you start. This frustration could easily have been avoided had you learned more before starting your map.

    Here's a quote I really like:

    <!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--> Reading makes you smart and smart people don't ask dumb questions.

    -Anonymous<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    The idea is to know before you go. Sorry you lost your map man, best of luck to you in your future endeavours.

    Reinstall your editor. There's no reason for it to crash when it tries to export to MAP file. If reinstalling does not fix your problem, then something else is wrong with your computer.
