hello all, I have just heard about the game and am wondering about the UK following if any, if you are a UK player and have a good server you play on with good ping please can you post the IP and the average ping. tnx Hobo Joe
<a href='http://www.thehavennet.org.uk' target='_blank'>the haven</a>, was one of the best imo, very tightly admined by admins who know what they are doing, some good players and a fantastic communtiy sprit, the teamwork issue is central to the set up, not frags, and n00bs are welcomed as long as they dont be complete idiots, and with regulars from all over northen europe (dutch guys have the funnist accent <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->).
but, it all went down a few weeks ago due to reasons that the server owner and operator dont want to be made public.
they are however trying to get enough donations to rent a server( the orignal was run complety for free) so the haven may be back soon hopefully.
hmmm, *gets big list out* hmm well heres some i have in my favourites, they are popular tho and always busy.
yoclan 212.42.13.20:27025
themrmennet 80.168.35.40:27035 these arnt so tolerent to n00bs, as it said on their WON loading screen "do not come here to learn the game"
surftown servers arnt so bad 212.97.132.226:27015 212.97.132.228:27015 212.97.132.225:27015 212.97.132.224:27015 212.97.132.223:27015
theres plenty about just click ping on the steam server page and all the lowest pings will more than likey be engish speaking, UK servers. make sure u check that it is english tho, cos getting shouted at in spanish by the comm cos all u can say ns spanish is "que?" and have no idea that he wants u there or whatever, loses its appeal after, ooooooh, 2 seconds.
Take a look at the *No Time For Muppets* servers: ns1.ntfm.org:27015 ns2.ntfm.org:27015
The admins have a harsh policy on muppets, so you'll likely have a good game <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
The problem is I need to learn the game. So im going to have to try some bots <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo--> I have played a bit and the game seems good but Im tooooooo slow and cant kill any one!! + I need to learn about the upgrades and how they affect me!

It helps if you tell your team you're new to the game instead of being quiet and ignore them (some general advice). Often they'll be more than willing to help and explain the game to you, if they aren't they're turds <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
But yeah, *ntfm* is in the UK, server 1 has an average ping of 25, server 2 has an average ping of 35. In addition ntfm 1 mainly runs classic ns maps, whilst ntfm 2 mainly runs combat maps. More information can be found at the <a href='http://www.ntfm.org' target='_blank'>website</a> and the <a href='http://www.ntfm.org/forums' target='_blank'>forums</a>.
I strongly advise against "learning" the game with bots, as the bots come nowhere near a real person playing NS. Find yourself a decent server somewhere, tell the people on that server you're new to the game, and most of all have some fun <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Ok.... I played with Bots but they realy do suck!!! I CAN KILL THEM!! The problem playing online is that everyone is fast!! I cant see ****!! then Im dead!! And coz I cant kill ppl I cant get Xp and cant upgrade and end up at more of a disadvantage!
*sigh* Oh and can you bunny hop in NS it seems like it
*groan* No, let's not start down that path again. Yes, bhoping still works in NS3. Just drop it.
I tried CS for the first time today, (ick) and I can relate to how you feel about NS atm. Just give it time, you will become expert in 6 months. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
i wouldnt play with bots, they're nothing like what an actual person plays like.
are u only playing combat? try some games of normal ns, the pace isnt so frantic, and it doesnt matter too much if u cant kill because exp has nothing to do with it, but u learn things like team tactics, tactics used by marines/kahraa to trap u, better from other players that u just dont get so much in combat.
thats what i did, learn how to be a good marine/alien in normal ns, and now that we have combat i use that like target practice(my aim used to be shocking), ready for proper games of ns.

You might want to try some of the newbie nights, there are several threads floating on the boards about these "training nights".
As for the bunnyhopping, yes, it's possible as an alien but not as a marine. It's there for various reasons and has been discussed many many times.
Just take it all in a bit at a time, you'll die... alot... yes.. but don't let it put you down.
Keep on practising, pull through and you'll be on a proper level of play sooner than you think <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Combat is easier... in a way, because all you have to do is shoot people.
Classic NS requires much more than just aiming skills. It often requires stealth and a firm dose of common sense amongst other things.
It seems you're having trouble with the "pace" of the game, which might mean you'll have an easier time learning and getting better at it if you play classic NS rather than combat NS.

that was the point i was trying to make in my own babbling way. thanks ThinG <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->
That is the problem... I tryed NS today and I prefer it, but does anyone have a link to where I can get info on how many resorces it takes to do stuff, eg the upgrades
since your new u should'nt really be concerning yourself with resources as a marine, that the commanders job, and only the most expericed players should go commander unless they want ppl to hate them ( its sad that that happens but its true)
for Aliens, all upgrades(such as regeneration, silence, cloaking etc) cost 2 res points.
all chambers (offence, defence, movement, sensory) cost 10 res.
resource towers cost 15 and a hive costs 35
to evolve to gorge costs 10, lerk 30, fade 50 and onos 75. i think, im not sure since some of the evolution costs changed and i have a bad memory <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo--> so dont treat this as gospel.
there should be a thread or link on the main site that gives this info, prolly in the manual.
take a look around, theirs always someone quoting numbers <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Aye, there is indeed no need to know all of the costs right now (not for marines in any case). In the current build all the costs for aliens have been removed from the pop-up menu, they used to be in there.
Big jim summed the alien costs up quite nicely, although I am wondering about the hive cost, I thought it was still 40. I haven't been keeping track of these things either lately. The costs should be put back into the menu... don't know why it's not there atm.
As for marine costs... well, in-game just don't ask for equipment. If you don't ask for equipment the comm will tend to like you alot more, and there's no need to know the actual costs either <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->
If you *do* want to know the marine costs, I suggest you create a "LAN server" and go in there, join the marines and type "sv_cheats 1" in the console. That will turn on cheatmode, allowing the game to start so you can build structures. Then you can type "bigdig" in the console, which will make al your structures build instantly (so you don't have to get out of the chair and build them by yourself). You can also type "givepoints" in the console repeatedly to give you a certain amount of res (just spam this in the console 10 times and you'll have 500 res or so). Now you can hop in the chair and start building and upgrading and check all the costs and find out how the entire tech tree works. It also gives you nice overviews of the map, just like hitting "C" (default).
Hope this helps and good luck <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
