I Cannot Instal Version 3.0 Anymore!

Alright, I logged on today and saw that beta3 was out. After i got the install (i tried 2), i found that the changes from B2 to B3 were not made, and i couldnt play on B3 servers. Soon after trying multiple times, it still wouldnt let me. Finally, i simply deleted my ns folder in the my Half-Life folder in hopes that i could use the title page's advice (d/l 3.0 then install, then d/l and install B3) to no avail...
So now i am i left with nothing and i am wondering if anyone knows how to solve this problem. Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Tell me where problems occur on each step (AND BE SPECIFIC, with out error msgs and the like we can't do anytihng)

1) Install Steam

2) Play Half Life ussing Steam (this is necesary, I don't know why but you do have to)

3) Install NS 3.0 Beta 1

4) Install NS 3.0 Beta 3 (the dirrectory you want when it prompts you is: ...\steam\steamApps\YourEmail\Half-Life)

Find a Beta 3 server and play on it.

Problem is, there are NO error messages. It simply does not work (i can tell becuase when NS loads, the backround screen is still the old HL one). In other words, well i dont have any other words <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' />. Actually, i may be able to give some info, am i supposed to install 2.0 NS before going strait into 3.0?

no, you are suposed to folow the directions above, there is NOTHING else you have to do, and if you don't do those dirrections then you are screwed.

So, you have:
1) Installed steam?

2) Played HL Through Steam?

3) Installed Beta 1 (at this point open your steam folder and brows to here: .... \steam\steamApps\yourEmail\Half-Life\nsp, if this dirr dosn't exist you have done something wrong. try again <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' />)

4) Install Beta 3 (again, make sure you point the installer at the proper place)

Now, how do you try and join servers?

If you are ussing a third party server browser (ASE) Try ussing the Steam integrated one (it is actualy very nice), and make sure you filter for NS BETA not for NS (if you havE NS 2.0 installed for steam)

Well then, I have absolutly no clue what the problem is, because the steps are the easy part, the hard part is the frustration after realizing that it fails time after time despite me following the directions perfectly, which are fairly simple...

Ah wonderful, i have found the problem. As for any other people who may have this problem in the future, here is what it was:

After installing the NS Version 3 onto your computer, it may create a nsp folder where all of the NS "goodies" are located. This folder is not the one in which you want these "goodies" (maps, dlls, etc.), but you DO want them in the folder above the nsp folder, or the "ns" folder. To accomplish this, simply copy all of the files in the nsp folder. Then, paste them into the ns folder which should be 1 level above the nsp folder. Then, you can go back and completly delete the nsp folder. Remember, you must do all this BEFORE adding any patches or else the process may be messed up slightly.

cuss thats where you want the files (unless you are trying to do the entire play NS3 on WON...)

o well the nsp folder is something that the install programs choose to dump all the crap that should be in the ns folder, and it is simply a folder in the steam/steamapps/email/HL/ns. However my solution, as i said, is invalid, and now i am back to where i started.

ahhhhh after reading you above post, i may have found the answer.
My NS immeadiatly makes a folder in the location of steam/apps/email/HL/ns
Now since it makes this ns folder, it goes agaisnt what you said about it going into a nsp folder first. Well in my case, it chooses to make a ns folder instead of going right into the nsp....which is weird because i cant control that, so i may be doomed...

I dont think i can stress this enough, simply following the directions that they give DOES NOT solve my problem (yes i know that you gave me links to beta 1 and beta 3.....). Also those links are broken for me anyway.

look, that first download should give you nochoce for where you install it to, and it will create an NSP dir in your steam apps, if it aint doing that your installer is either:
1) Broken (download for ma nother placE)
2) Not the 3.0 beta 1 installer.

ah screw it, fine, gime a few secs, gime your AIM sn and I will contact you (or send me a PM if you don't want it up there)
