Is Ns Turning Into Cs?

Discuss....
Well, I've played on about 7 different servers today, co-maps, and classic. Always about half-way through the game I get called a hacker, then I get kicked about 15 minutes later for "hacking" I mean, WTH? I'm a fairly good player, but I never figured myself to be called a hacker. Well my point is that every server I go to I get kicked by the admin for being a "hacker" when all I have done is play the game. I have been playing since 1.04 and thus I am pretty good at the game, but no matter which server I join I get kicked!!

I don't really see what this has to do with CS (hell, even NS for that matter)... rather, it has to do with the servers you were on.

My point is the fact that, any experienced ns player on any server will be called a hacker!!!111

Actually, you're wrong. It's quite easy to tell the difference between someone that's hacking and someone who is legit... You either have dopey administrators for the servers you play on or you aren't telling us something :\

The only server i only play is Texas [HK] Palace ns only(ns.clanhk.org:27015 )
and a 24/7 combat server at ns.clanhk.org:27016

Just like he said, it really depends on the server you play on, almost everyone that goes here is very skilled and people do not get treated any diffrent for being an amazing player. So no i do not think this game is turning into CS at all... just find a non-noob server and you will see.

well, it's a compliment if you don't get banned... Perhaps you should change your playstyle a little bit so you don't look like a hacker?

You aren't the first this has happened to, welcome to being good at the game, try to get multiple smurf names, they can help

That's one of many reasons why you should just pick a good server and become a reg there instead of pub surfing.

When did the term "smurf" start appearing in games? I know where it originated from, but I don't know when it was first used in games. The first place I've seen it used extensively is in warcraft 3...

It comes to a point where you compete for who has been banned from the most servers..

If you want to play NS to play NS, then find good servers and become a regular there. There are idiots in every game.

actually i can understand the original posters assertions.

Just look at the servers atm, alot of them are perma CO servers.

Then you get players coming in to the Classic NS and they go, hey how come i can only get 1 upgrade? ( as aliens ) or you get things like How do i buy upgrades and weapons? Or things like how do i build or simlpy alot of ress****s..

then after they realise that the gameplay requires teamwork etc they go this sucks and suddenly ( like on several servers i played on today ) half the team leaves ...

you wouldnt believe how many CS lee7 players come to NS, play combat and then say NS classic sucks ****.. and you thenn think well no loss until u start seeing alot of pub servers cater exclusively to these Death match CS players and go CO only..

seriously, CO has had a bad effect and hasnt attracted the right kind of players to NS..

Every time I get insta-gibbed I get a feeling of CS.

I hate that. Next, Flayra adds AWP and headshots.

I am assured that classic NS won't be torn apart because combat. Because eventually, combat becomes extremely boring and just another point, click, shoot, buy game like CS

And honestly....I've kicked the habit of playing combat a looong time ago because it was just like CS. It's good when you do want a break from regular NS though (And surprisingly, this was one bad point about NS....only 1 mode of gameplay :/)

I won't be surprised if people suddenly play MvM or AvA all day when NS actually supports it....

Yeah, guys, any moment now, the marines will need to defuse a bomb in the core generator, while the aliens try to stop them. Actually, that sounds kind of nice.

For NS on HL2 I'd like to see an assault mode where you must set the ships selfdestruct sequence, board an escape shuttle and get out before detonation. Or a survival mode, something like that, yeah.

smurfing originated from RTS games i think. it's when someone plays under the name of someone else in a match

in a cs type world it's commonly refered to 'ringing' or 'slutting'

But how do you stop the aliens from camping the terminal/escape pod
Oh wait, they never do something as smart as that on pubs

Hmmm, wouldn't this be a little like cs though, except you have to weld a computer terminal and get out?

no. Go read the CAL rules if you don't believe me, it specifically disallows ringing.

In warcraft 3, smurfing means creating a new account. Since wc3 bnet is a ladder system, this wrecks havoc on newbies and average players. And it's easy to tell if he's a smurfer or not - anyone who has insane ratios (at least 2:1) at around lvl 12-13 is a smurfer.
• CxwfCxwf Join Date: 2003-02-05 Member: 13168Members, Constellation
Right...the WC3 ladder system is set up so that EVERYONE except maybe the top 2 or 3 people should have a win ratio around 50%. If it's much higher than that, it means they were already very skilled and then created a new account at the bottom of the ladder to harass newbies with and pickup easy wins. But this will still tend to shoot their level up pretty fast, so before long their win ratio should either level off again or they'll create a new Smurf account.

Why people hate CS so much here? Is it because it's so popular? Is it because there are a few bad apples around? There will ALWAYS be lamers/cheaters/etc, get used to it. They go from mod to mod, it doesn't matter which one you play. CS is a great mod. I still play it for fun (fun, OMG WTH HERO!!11one), yes it is fun. I used to be CAL-m, and I still scrim in CS, but I did give it up for NS. NS is an even better mod, so get used to lamers. Don't let them bring you down. If you get called a hacker (and you arn't), don't reply or shake it off. There is no need to smurf or anything, that's stupid. Don't hide yourself, take pride in your name and your skill. Who gives a damn what other people think, its a GAME. Besides, there's always other servers.
• woodwood Join Date: 2003-08-06 Member: 19065Members
CS represents what goes wrong with a MOD and its community. The community back then valued skill and teamwork over kills and lee7ness.

i played CS way waaay back when CS was still considered a team orientated game where it was a simul between Ts and CTs .

nowadays the typical map rotation on the majority of servers is Dust, Aztech, bloodstrike and Dust2 , heaven forbid theres some Hostages to rescue cos they are out of luck.

this is what happens when the moders sell out to Valve or to the DM community. CS is no longer CS, it may as well be called Quake CT vs T.

you may /shrug and say its only a game. Sure it is, then one day u log back on to play NS and all u see is CO maps and u wonder WTH is happenning.
• Doobie_DanDoobie_Dan Join Date: 2003-10-23 Member: 21892Members, Constellation
Personally, I think the servers that play only CO maps are good thing. We've all noticed the same thing with the CS folks coming over since the public beta, and if it weren't for these combat-only servers, think how many NS games would be pointless because nobody cared about the team game happening. Find the right server with the right people, and NS is the same that it's always been. Eventually the dust will settle, and you'll have the people who love NS for what it is staying, and the deathmatchers going on to better deathmatch games. Whenever something happens to increase a player base, it takes a while to sort through the mess.

Smurfing: Creating a false name when your normal handle is semi-popular and the player using that handle has a hard time finding a game because no one wants to get owned.

I can trace the term back personally to when "Warcraft:Orcs and Humans" was played on Kali. Some extremely proficient players would log in as "Papa Smurf," "Smurfette," and other random "Smurfy" names.

It may go back further, but as Warcraft was my intro to the RTS world, I wouldn't know about it.

As far as NS becoming CS. I think the game its self will retain it's originality, however, I have noticed the player base degrading not in numbers but in sportmanship and general conduct.
