Problems With Steam

well when i try to join a game it goes through all of its normal stuff. when it gets to precaching resources it just doesn't move then after a min or two it says i have been disconnected from the server. reason:timed out. anyway, i'm positive it's not my steam because this has been my first and only copy which i d/l about 3 weeks ago. it's been working fine. also, i tried reinstalling it. still says the same thing. another thing is that it happens with all my half-life games. it just started doing this last night. i'm hoping this can be fixed.

Its a steam erro, possible things:
1) make sure that you have all of the latest steam updates (simpyl start up steam and look at moniter)

2) Go to the steam forums.

i have done so much but still nothing. i went on their forums. they said to d/l ad-aware and remove any spyware on your computer. so i did. NOTHING! still the same thing. steam is really starting to **** me off. WTH was so wrong with won anyway? imo, if it ain't broke.....don't fix it!

Sierra is taking WON offline, so VALVe created Steam to run their games on.
And I wouldn't set cl_timeout to 9999, becuase it sounds like the game's crashing and you don't want to be waiting that long just for nothing to happen.
Make sure you have nothing running in the background when you try to play... Maybe try drefagging your PC aswell. And try re-installing Steam.

Well I can let you know what helped me :-). You need to right click on natural selecion then goto propeties and check the cache. After doing this when you go into a game u will timeout the first time you try to connect but you should be able to connect to any game after the first timeout <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' />. You will have to do the intial connect (the one the timesout) every time you open natural selection but it should work for you. <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif' />

ok, i'll try that.....hopefully it works

-EDIT-well the only game that is in my 3rd party list is ns, so i can't get to porperties by right clicking on it. all of the other games that are in my games list i can right click on and there will be properties. i wonder if i can right click on like dod and the cache thing will set it for all my games....maybe? oh well, i'll try that.

ummm, now that does sound like another bug, are you sure your hardware and isp are allright?

im positive becuase steam WAS working fine for the first 3 weeks or so when i installed it. then it didn't work, then chaos helped me and it worked....now that doesn't even work! i know it's steam and not anything else.
