<div class="IPBDescription">why?</div> Ok, why are marines taking zero damage by nearby exploding mines?
I remember earlier versions had them do FF. Was simply logical.
I now see marines form a circle of mines around them, jump up on each other, and shoot anything that comes nearby.
So, they form a totem pole in a corner, if you get close, you get shot, if you go at them, you explode.

Needs fixin'

And will a higher FF damage be added to standard grenades and grenade launcher ammunition? Cause the current damage dealt to marines is ridiculous. We now see a new "exploit". 2 marines go in different corners of a room. They constantly shoot each other. So, they are protected by a wall of explosion, get zero damage (since it's not their grenade) and anything that comes nearby explodes.

Also, the new trend for marines who get scared is to shoot their nades at their feet, and they wait for incoming aliens. They suffer minimal damage, while aliens get blown to bits.

Needs fixin'

    Most of those "problems" can easily be avoided by simply.. not paying attention..

    They're both about the grenade launcher and its spam capabilities, I don't see how it is NOT related.

    To the point:No, they did not do friendly fire damage in earlier versions unless the server had mp_tournamentmode set to 1. Mines did(and I believe even that was only in 1.04), though.
    Those 2 GLers could be busy bombing into the NEXT room, killing a bunch of aliens anyway, or maybe bombing a hive. They're particularly useless if they stand in the same room never moving.
    Also, the GL is NOT useful against...anything, on its own. Teamwork hax(OMG) makes all the difference.

    I do agree that they should do more damage to self though.

    Damage to marines is making them useless.. remember 2.01? How many mines were in pub.. They were simply not used, too dangerous.. single huge detonation (chain reaction) often killed whole team..
    It was manageable in CWs with good players, but on pub too risky to drop mines..

    They are fine the way it is, if you want FF mines, just play on servers with FF on..

    Okay, I play almost 95% of the time on the alien side. I like the challenge (plus random team is always alien team....).

    Whenever I play marines, I'm always amazed at how EASY it is. Get a jetpack, get a shottie. Take down a hive all by your lonesome. Get an HMG+HA+ressupply+motion tracking and kill 2 onoses all by yourself...

    Honestly. Those that think the game is balanced to perfection have obviously not played aliens enough. Aliens actually require skill and teamwork to win.

    Anyways, enough of my ranting. All I want to say is: Jetpack+GL at hive shooting down on your feet and not dying but killing all the skulks and lerks (in combat mode) is pretty lame. For the grenadier to die of his own weapon, he needs at least 4 grenades to explode directly under his nuts. It's lame.

    On a sidenote. I don't understand why fades cant hit for more then 20 consecutive seconds (if they dont have adrenaline). What? Are they heavy smokers suffering from shortbreath...
    And why on hell does the lerk need stamina to fly... he's a friggin bird. Was he born with only 1 lung? The darn bird gets short of breath within 20 flaps.

    Also, adding a cap on the bunny jumping would be nice. A lerk cant flap more then 20 times withouth getting exhausted, but a marine can jump constantly while shooting an hmg without a sweat...

    Minor annoyances that would be easy to fix.

    Aliens are typically worse in pubs because of their decentralized nature... Everbody has to do their part with gorging and saving for evolutions and a mix of the two. To succeed, basically EVERYONE on the alien team needs to know what they're doing. For marines to succeed, they need a good comm and they need to listen to him.

    Any explosive type weapon needs to do a severe ammount more damage to the shooter. I noticed as well in 3.0 that mines seemed to have less oomph against fellow marines then in 1.04 when they were shunned for usually taking out as many enemies as friendlies.

    I would be overjoyed if GLs and Mines simply did 1/2 damage to whoever fired them or put them down. I don't care much for them damaging team mates. Of course, I also don't want to see the GL nerfed to the point where it becomes a useless weapon.

    ok....so you have a stack of marines with mines around them.... ok

    first of all..... it doesn't need "fixin"

    bile bomb can detonate the whole circle of mines and lerks can simply gas the whole tower of marines down if they dont move....

    such simple counters.... why do you speak of it as such a big problem

    "simple counters" that do no good in Combat, where every marine is likely to have Resupply, the Spore-Negator and Infinite-Grenade-Supplier.

    Probably due to the recent reset of parasites to 'organic' damage type.

    I think there should be a limited amount of GL's allowed on the marine team in Combat. If not that then at least a mod that limits the GL's.

    he never specified which mode he is talking about so i just assumed ns classic because thats what this game is supposed to be.... (or the main portion of it)

    but with combat? well theres still a counter but its going to take teamwork...

    1) gorge bile bomb mines

    2) lerks gas them

    3) fade blink in kills 1 blink out and repeat

    there goes your tower of marine + mines

    though if you're just on some random pub its definately not going to happen

    In combat mines are laughable.. they are good only to kill unupgraded skulks, everything else survives blast..
    Onos can just ignore them with his hp/armor (i intentionaly run into mines with onos to clear it), and single xenocide clears large area of mines, no even need for gorge..
    If they are going to kill marines even just in combat, they would become useless..

    ..... as you've said you play 95% of the time as alien.

    Alien has been dominant in 1 and 2.x version of this game. Now the game is balanced, marines aren't too strong.

    Maybe if you discount HA or JP... and the really low health on the various lifeforms... and HMG doing full damage to structures.
