Hate to start a new topic but here it is
After following Greedos advice, I've come up with a new "overall" lighting/brush style for Odlers general areas.

I'm pretty happy with how it looks... and I think it looks fairly original too, which is a plus...

anyway..heres 3 shots...

2/3 - thats a door at the end their by the way...it opens up in 3 directions...the middle bit goes down and the two larger bits go left and right

Sweet! very Star Wars-ish, and that's a good thing!

My favorite style of yours yet, espeacially the colored lighting. Maybe you could increase the general brightness just a tad though. Good luck on the map, isnt this your like 4th retry?

Very plush and sleek, absolutly no cover. I would like to see the colour of the lights intensied, but it's bright enough as it is.

not 4th retry...per say.....it's essentially always been the same map...just little glitches with style...put bluntly - people didn't like my other styles...so...

Good overall though it's a tad bland and uniform, maybe a torn off wall panel or some rubble somewhere to spruce it up a tad. Those blue lights in the roof, along with the general structure, look pretty functional. There's a nice contrast with the yellow lights at the bottom too.

    Good work!

Chrome - ...this is gamma 1.6 and the others were gamma 1.4...
I think it proves one point....in game it looks very very different..it's so bright in-game but here it looks ...BLEH...

Scythe - read what I just wrote to chrome...I don't think screenies ever do me justice....it's a crime I tell you! a crime!

Can I suggest a little more red and less green in the yellow lighting, it looks greenish against the lab textures. I'd like to see a warmer, more orangey yellow. The blue light still doesn't look blue enough.

Chrome....lets have a little lesson in primary colours/colors....yellow plus blue = green....the yellow down the bottom is almost an orange...but mixed with the sky blue it meets with a slight greeny tinge...the blue up the top is quite blue but cause of the silver wall it has gone more icey coloured....hrmm....

dont mess with the colors too much, they look awesome.

I like the colours. I like the triangular-look. I like milkshake. I li...umm, yes, nice corridors! If you are going to do lots of those, make some vents on top of the corridors, for skulks ya know

    Keep that style.

I agree about the lighting (looks awsome as is. I think it would be nice if it felt darker tho. May i suggest leaving the lighting as it is but just having broken lights on a bit of the corridor to make it spooky. That and some cool ambient sounds would be neat. For extra interest how about some gratings in the floor or walls which allow you to see other areas?, or maybe moving things.

I like it...simple, yet high-tech, and nice lighting too. One minor nitpick that I'd suggest is that I think it'd look cooler if the support beams at the corners of the intersection looked a bit more grey and metallic, just to provide a bit more contrast from the rest of the wall. Other than that I think it's pretty cool.

I'd definitely change the light color at the base... looks really pale and sickly to me. :-\

That ceiling is in urgent need of another texture in my opinion. Don't like those mustardish textures at all. What about some more blueish grey instead. Then you can light up the ceil in some color and the lower walls in that one you're using now. Don't listen to them, they're just jealous that you've found a color that hasn't been used in an ns map before. Not that i know of atleast.
(everybody, please don't start a long discussion about other maps colors)

umm i agree with doctopepa about the lighting, its cool, keep it like that, the ceiling texture looks out of place, but overall, i really like that style =)

Damn ppl are extremely picky about things that they think should be done different in here.

Better that than nothing but heapings of unconstructive praise

Ok... I've uploaded the style test bsp to my webpage just so those who want to have a proper look will now be able to.

Note to those who download : the room at the end with the ramp down has the command station in it so you can see the overhead version.

Plus - the left-hand corner from where you spawn has junk lying all over the place...walk up to the black hole (stay a couple of feet away) and begin to weld... nice little weldable door/wall thing I made...I think it's nice...

anyways... go to My Webpage to download the bsp (and as usual ignore the advertising from Spaceports )..

I've attached a pic here of the weld thing...

Here's as good a time as any to ask a question that's been bothering me--How does the HL engine combine different colors of light? As you may know, colored light combines differently than regular pigments. I was wondering, do in-game lights mix realisticly (like red + green = yellow), or is it the standard yellow + blue = green bit?

{BTW, the above site is how the whole RGB thing works, if you didn't already know).
