<div class="IPBDescription">What is the CPU usage for a server?</div> I was wondering what the CPU usage would be for a Linux Dedicated server. Any information would be helpful. Thank you, Fatal
Perhaps if you give us an example of how many players and what processor you were thinking of I could be more accurate.
on a 2.4 hyperthreaded P4 with 512mb of ram and IDE hard drive running 20 players on 2.01 used between 20% and 40% of the cpu. Depending again on map and entities. This is under windows. Linux is about the same depending on the distro and build.
well my linux server is a 16 man server 12 pulic and when it gets 12 in the sever hits like 200-3000 ping yes that 3000 . server uset to run 2.01 fine with pings hittting the 40 marke at 16 playes well into a game.
steam and ns 3.0 eat the cpu <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif' /><!--endemo-->
but, as you perhaps may have noticed, this is not ns's fault. valve just made a BIG mess with the hlds server software for linux. on win, everything is running fine <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif' /><!--endemo-->.
but, hopefully, there will come out some engine updates that will solve the problem.
huh? <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo--> back to tfc? that's 4 years back in time! <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
in the beginning steam for windows was crap, i did not use it untill i was forced for ns3.0 but i like it now, it's really more stable and userfriendly. da linux version will become more stable in time, just have patience...

I dont yet have figures for 3.0
if you want max performance for gameserving then you need to adjust some of your services priority and kill what you don't need that moment.

Use Windows
and
replace vgui2.dll
Valve makes their product with windows for windows then ports it to linux. Have fun!
And like all things steam, it'll take 6 mths for little things to be fixed.
