Ns 2.0 Problems (can't Play The Game)

Internet connection stuff
Hi, sorry to bother you all like this. I just installed ns 2.0 through a retail version of half-life. My cpu is a 1.8 ghz pentium iv processor, with 384 mb of ram. I have the standard graphics card put into all dell computers and I use WON, I believe. When I tried to play an internet game of ns (through half life custom games), the program said that my executable was out of date, and that it would search the internet for updates. However, a message box then said that my connection was invalid, and therefore, I could not update. Should I move on to ns 3.0, or is there a way to play ns 2.0 that I'm just not understanding? I hope I have given enough information for assistance, and thank you for your time.

Did you update HalfLife?
If not:
You need to find the 1.1.1.0 patch.
Look Around:
www.fileplanet.com
www.fileshack.com
www.gamershell.com
www.redphive.org
They have em.

If you DO have said update, Go nab ASE (third party server browser, it is shareware, you just gotta tell it that you wana keep ussing the free trial every 7 days, ats it)
Use that to find a server.

Personaly I suggest making the jump to Steam and 3.0

It is honestly not that hard, find the HL Steam install on any of those links I gave you. The one you want will just be Steam and HL (thus making it smaller).

Then folow the directions on the main download page here.
