make baby jesus cry
thats right. no source at all. I load the pointfile into hammer and i find that the line passes right through a solid (world) brush twice in 2 adjacent faces. There are no errors in hammer, ive tried replacing the offending brush and redoing it but nothing seems to help. I even placed a massive cube right on the offending area(the entire corridor was blocked off) and the pointfile just leads to the exact godamn place!!!! WTH is going on here? This has never happened to me. I need someones help.

/me weeps

I've never been able to use the point file effectively. I suggest diligently combing every place wall meets a floor or ceiling. I usually pan around the outside of the map, area by area.

Maybe there's a better way but I've never found it.

Using the pointfile is the best way, and so far it has already shown me every other leak. What i'm trying to say is i think something bad is happening at the above mentioned brush. I don't know why a leak would be generated there though .

Maybe you have an entity ist center ouside or very close to the maps void near that location. I agree this is a weird LEAK.

DarkATi could have encoutered it. He seems to be cursed to get the annoying and weird errors

C'mon man! I wrote a friggin' novel on leaks, you know that edge, use teh stickiesz0rz. It's probably a CSG Generated Leak. Send me the .map file if you can't get it, I can find any leakz0rz. Ever. Z0rz.

EDIT: The Pointfile isn't as accurate as the LIN, however the LIN and Pointfile's both DO NOT LIE, if they are going straight through (not just coming in a little) then there is a leak. Sometimes they do "skip in" to the level and this confuses people but overall you just have to know what you're looking for.

yeah i use lin personnally (thats what i meant). Anyways sorry to get you interested but i deleted the offending area, (no more infestation for me) and replaced the floor with flat metal panels, it seems to compile now. But i'm telling you, it is really wierd, the line line passed right through the face of the brush, and if i flipped it over, the lin line would pass through the same face .

[edit] about the csg leak - doubt it i triple checked that every single vertex in the area was snapped to grid, so no dodgy map export problems.

It is still possible even with the grid to get a CSG leak but doubtful. Sorry you had to re-do / change your design.

I'll reattempt it later, i just needed it out of the way so i could get on with the rest of it.

You could try cordoning it next time. This would allow you to continue working on your map and just return to fix that one area later.

Compile with circus mode. That will make purty lights shine where the outside is visable.

funny thing was when i cordoned it it just found another random spot to go through the ground, (nearby).

Sounds like you had no choice but to rip apart that area. Very odd indeed.

Yes, circus mode will do it if it's a "normal" leak. I need to add that to my common errors index...

Doesn't circus mode just randomly light up areas that are pitch black? hrm.

The pointfile will go through the walls I think if it has already found a leak

Well, I have my own little tactic for the war against leaks Just go around in VHE in 3D Flat Mode or whatever it is and look around your map for black bits. Works for me.

Maybe, but the lin file has never done that before to me. Weird as hell. Oh well, all water under the bridge now.

    Check your entity list.

Look for an entity that does not exist and takes you to the center (0,0,0).

    Delete said entity.

This may be the source of your problems.
