You have any hint? post it here...
Hey, n here we go...

if you guys have any hint you want ns players to know or you think that it is the best way to do something, well, here's the ideal place to post it and explain it.

here's 1:

ok, if your com and you want to drop some turrets to defend something, well, try to drop them on hight platforms and distanced from each other, kind of "surrounded turret system"(turrets surround tf or surround the object u want to defend)...

Duck when you are climbing ladders, you won't make a noise.
  • dotdot Join Date: 2003-10-09 Member: 21554Members
Guessing this is for new players tryin' to get better. Personally I think it should go to that new player forum or whatever, even if these are kind of basic ideas. Anyway, I got one for the newbie aliens, learn to walk as you enter nearby enemy territory. Lessen your chances of being detected via good players' ears. Cloaking as an upgrade will help, but the tactic sans cloaking is still valid.

But at the cost of speed!

Personally I've never noticed a decline in speed while ducking and climbing ladders. If there is one, it's next to nothing and the added silent factor is key in some situations.

Don't be stubborn. If your fps is suffering, it's hurting your gameplay ability. Turn down your resolution or tweak it out some. 60 fps, at least.

Crouch just before you jump and you silent jump, very useful when going around corners. Also if you catch it just right you go a little faster!

Don't expect your teammates to kill the skulk you hear coming while building a structure.
  • MintmanMintman Join Date: 2003-05-30 Member: 16866Members
When guarding long corridors shoot with your pistol first and finish them off with your LMG if they aren't dead before they get 10 meters away.

Hold your jump key to glide as a lerk. (Even more relevant now than previously)

Learn to single out one opponent within a group. It's better for your team to take one with you than to damage 2 or 3.

Don't always go to defend your hive. Use the fact that their whole team is attacking to take out something of theirs much easier.

As commander don't automatically use electrification to protect your base, 3 turrets can be more effective as sometimes they can also cover the start res node from attack.

That's all I can think of for now!

Marine: Unless you know otherwise, don't expect your teammates to follow orders.

Alien: Hide behind a ceiling beam or cloak on the ceiling when you hear footsteps coming. Wait until the marine is right under you and *poof* meals on wheels.

Marine: HA does not equal invincible, nor does it equal "rambo-time". It just means you're more valuable to the team, so don't go die from something stupid.

Alien: Contrary to what seems to be popular belief, spores don't bloody well hurt HA.

When biting as a lerk, glide above the target marine, look down real fast and bite, then fly off, it prevents you from slowing down or getting caught on the marine.

Silence as an upgrade for a skulk is a must!
You'll get 2 or 3 bites on them before they even know why their HP is dropping!

When climbing a ladder, climb using both the forward key and a strafe key. To do this, look straight up the ladder and turn so that you are aimed perpendicular to it, and then both move forward and strafe in the direction of the ladder. This will double your climbing speed.

Never charge at HA(s) as a skulk. Instead, use parasite to mark him.

As a fade, try resisting your temptation to run head-on at shotgunners, as slash has pathetic range. Flank marines, blink close and slash away; use blink to escape if the odds are against you.

Sometimes wounding a marine is better than killing one, that is without sacrificing yourself, of course.

If there is a large group of marines at the end of a large corridor, and all your good buddies are dying to them, look for a vent. It doesn't matter if the vent leads to another corridor that's equally long, they won't expect it, and you can usually get one or two. It also distracts them, so your aforementioned buddies can get to them before dying.

Learn to wall-walk as a skulk. There is NOTHING more difficult to hit than a skulk that's constantly switching from wall to wall, and going on the ceiling on a long corridor.

Learn to use the ceiling. Marines seem unable to hit anything when you're on there.

Wait for marines to pass a bit before you jump out at them. They won't expect you to come from behind in "friendly" territory. Or wait until they're occupied by an OC, or another skulk, etc.

If you seem unable to hit marines as a skulk:
Adjust your chair. Get armrests. Move your mouse to a different spot on your keyboard. These make an enormous difference.

Tweak your sensitivity. Sometimes, high sensitivity is bad. (If you find that you've lowered your sensitivity, and you can't turn fast enough as marine, or lerk, or onos, or fade, or gorge, then bind a key to a higher sensitivity. I use [ and ].)

Umbra the onos as a lerk. Remember not to block him either, because then you're doing more harm than good. Same goes for healing onos as gorge.

Ask who's saving for hive. If no one says they are, then do so yourself.

As a fade, go in and get out. Your armor is a far better indicator of health than your actual health, as once your armor is gone, it only takes a few shots.

Lerks may be higher lifeforms, but they are still weak. Try and keep good speed when attacking (that's what keeps them alive). You are mainly a really powerful skulk.

As a skulk, get carapace. It's more useful than regen most of the time, and it only takes 20 seconds to get back to the hive to heal.

When you see marines heading to a room (say... cargo on ns_tanith, from acidic), then get on the ceiling above the door, behind a crate, something. Wait for them to start shooting at something else, then hit them from behind. They're both low on ammo, and aiming in the other direction.

Try and stick with a buddy.

As lerk, fade, onos, or even gorge, SoF can be a good choice. Knowing wether the room you're gonna blink into has 3 marines or 5 will go a long way to keeping you alive.

Stick with the onos. He stomp, you eat.

Oftentimes, you'll want to set up 2 OCs instead of an RT at double res, unless you can count on your team defending it.

Create choke points on the map with OCs. On ns_nancy, keeping them out of cafeteria (or was it mess hall?) makes a big difference, as skulks can now concentrate on defending the other choke point, and they aren't spread out.

Give your neighbourhood gorge a hug =)

When attacking a group of marines, devouring rarely works out as well as just using gore as onos. Just an extra quarter of a second that you spend trying to devour the one marine completely removes the benefit that you get from digesting him (health returning). Feel free to eat in groups of 3 or less though.

In beta 3, redemption rarely works as onos. I suggest regen, that way you'll also learn how to really manouver the onos.

NEVER build up a corridor that an onos uses as an escape route. EVER.

One last thing: everyone stop hiding in the obvious spots. We all KNOW you're in red room
Far better spots are rather obvious ones. I mean, look at the maintenance corridor on ns_hera. As marine, I hid there for five minutes, without the aliens finding me (they must've walked past me about 100 times, or more). It was so dark and foggy, no one could see me. Hidden in plain sight. Eventually the admin slayed me though =P

Bilebomb only hurts marine structures <- (seen too many combat gorges pathetically shooting me with bilebomb lateley)

Dont cloak yourself in stupid places like the middle of corridors. Marines with keen eyes can still see your outline.

Use silence to pick off the last marine in a group, the rest will most likely not hear a thing unless the marine gets a few shots off first.
