Attack Animations

Not properly switched on lastinv
*Pre-post: Sorry if this bug has already been posted but my account/password does not seem to be registered with the bug database.

This bug most commonly occurs while switching between attacks that execute quickly, most notably the bite/leap attack. I'm sure many players use this combo to quickly leap at their enemy then quickly switch to bite and bite their target before they even finish their leap (in mid-air). The only problem with this is that if you hold down your attack key, or switch attacks too fast, the attack won't execute properly:
I.E: I am biting a marine, and while still holding down my attack button I proceed to hit my lastinv key to switch to leap so I can get away quickly and heal. The result was that I performed another BITE but this bite used the adrenaline equivalent of the attack I was switching to, LEAP. Thus when on my second attempt to leap to safety, I couldn't because I had ran out of energy. Letting go the attack key while switching seems to correct this, but since most attacks need to be executed quickly you need to hold down the attack button to execute with the desired speed.
Summary: When switching attacks (lets say #1 & #2) attack #1 will be played but at the cost of attack #2's adrenaline consumption.
Can anyone else verify this?

Yes, that has happened to me many times, especially when playing in Combat. I would leap in and bite, then try to leap away quickly. Except that the leap animation is shown, but no leaping actually occurs (and I lose a lot of energy in the process). Not fun, especially when a shotgun is right near.

We need to nail this down a wee bit better than this. for all I know it could be network glitches. Please make some solid reproducible evidence before coming into Beta Bug Reports.

Oh, this one's easy to recreate, as a matter of fact I just did after reading the post and recorded a demo file (attached). You will observe a skulk (me) performing 3-4 bites in a row first (just to display how much adrenaline it consumes) , then I will leap once (once again to differentiate between the adrenaline used). You will notice the leap consumes a more energy than a bite. The third maneuver I do is the bug. Its done by switching weapons (using lastinv) just before you commence your attack (it must be done very fast, like 0.1 seconds before). You will notice what is displayed is a bite attack, but clearly the adrenaline meter shows the signature drop of a leap attack.
So in the demo it plays out like this:
    Bite Bite Bite Bite
    Leap
Bug - Bite animation but Leap adrenaline cost.

After reviewing the above demo I realized for that, among other things, NS demos do not display adrenaline properly (or resources), thus it is almost useless in displaying the bug, however viewing the demo and reading the above post will help show the bug a little bit better than text alone. To illustrate the energy drop I'll attempt to take screenshots before and after this bug (leap/bite).

First, Heres the adrenaline meter BEFORE Full:

Now after the bugged attack that displays as a Bite but uses the energy of Leap:

As you can see this bug is two-fold. FIrst It deprives the player of switching weapons quickly (if you use lastinv) and attacking, thus leaving them in a disadvantage The second element is that not only does it display incorrectly, it also uses up inappropriately large amounts of energy for a bite. Thus this bug leaves the player at an overall great disadvantage (especially if alien):
I.E. in the need of a quick leap to getaway you switch too fast, perform a bite instead, which is bugged and uses up all your energy thus you cannot leap away any more and you die).
If you need anymore demos or screenshots just let me know, this bug is 100% reproducable.

    I've experienced this before.

    Thanks for the confirmation!
Also I got thinking last night, why should this bug only have disadvantages? Say if it could work the other way around? And thats what I just finished testing right now! Instead of switching from bite to leap, I tried switching from leap to bite. This is groundbreaking. If done correctly and consecutively it is possible to pull off an INDEFINATE amount of leap attacks seeming as they only consume the same adrenaline cost as a bite!!! Same thing with Parasite, if done in the same manner one could essentially have automatic Parasite fire!!! I managed to take a few screen shots... the parasite one is hard to distinguish, but the leap one is blatant! You will notice me leaping (as characterized by the protruding claws) but yet by looking at my adrenaline meter you will observe that I have only consumed the same amount of energy as would a bite have. Further observation will show I have NO upgrades, and even lvl 3 adren would not restore leap adrenaline even BEFORE you hit the ground!!
    Here is the Parasite version:

Next is the leap bug, which I said previously, if done "right" can be exploited and the player can perform an indefinate number of leaps. Once again note the extremely low adrenaline cost of the leap in the adrenaline bar:

I have redone this Topic in Beta Bug reports. To keep up with it check there.
