As I recall, I saw a post on a gaming newssite somewhere about Natural Selection 1.0 being released on Halloween (a few days after when I saw the post). I wasn't really playing much else then, so I figured i'd check it out. So I did. And it was fun! Unfortunatly I can't claim the same kind of devotion to NS as most of you... I tend to wander in and out of NS, as great of a game as it is. First time, I hung around from 1.0 to 1.04 (or whatever), and then vanished off to other games. When I caught wind of 2.0, I snuck back in to give it a shot. Played it for a bit (and thru several betas), and then got distracted by something else. Came back AGAIN for 2.0x, but didn't stick around long. Then when I heard 'bout NS 3.0, I came crawling back yet again. Downloaded it and loved it, as always! Played it pretty much exclusively, right up until recently. Unfortunatly, when the UT2004 demo hit I took off again (sorry guys, but im a UT man before i'll ever be a HL man ). umm.... i was playing rather frequently at an internet cafe (all kinds of games) and i spot this new icon on the desktop with this cool little picture of this weird alien thing, so i ask the owner "wth is that.. a new game?" and he's like "yes" so i click it, 5 minutes later im dropping oc's and res towers in a hallway on eclipse, (eclipse is still my favourite map btw) it was around oct 2002 or whenever 1.0 was released, but unfortunatly i drifted away, (moved to australia!) in december that year, and didnt pick ns up again until i got my computer up again, (like, march ) and played 1.04 until now... constantly.. everyday.... saving up money to send to my god mr.flayra and playing a game that we all love

It was some pictures of what I think was Bast on PHL (the EM Drill Shaft I think) that I saw around December '01. Thought it looked like hot stuff, so I had a quick look but then promptly forgot about it.
Some pictures of Nothing in May of '02 (again on PHL) rekindled my interest, and I joined the forums. I've been here ever since.
My little brother found NS from somewhere (I don't know how). I saw him playing it (It was somewhere 1.02 - 1.03 time) and my first attention was "blah. CS is much better". Then about 30 sec later "please, let me try some!" and here I'm now =)

I don't remember, someone showed me a link pre-release, and I just decided to follow it, without ever thinking it would be my #1 hobby.
Hah, well here I am
I found out about it (in Dec 2001?) while nattering to Merkaba in the Valve ERC's IRC channel. He had some really impressive screenshots (weird curly corridors), and I was intrigued. I eventually got round to registering on the new forums, made one (very minor) suggestion for ns_nothing (my name's in the readme!), and have generally hung around ever since.
I have a few bits of an NS map hanging around still - search for 'ns_sugarlump' if you're interested. I've been too busy working on Nightwatch, which has still offered me a view into the innards of NS (second-hand, admittedly).

I first heard of NS from Manah in December '01 or January '02... I can't remember which month... heh... So Manah roped me in to mapping a few things and to help him with little bits of ns_caged. 'twas fun indeed... Anyway, I hung around the IRC channel and finally registered on the forums in May. Whee.
DL'ed 1.00 on the day of it's release, because some of my friends in the FA clan scene told me about it.
I played it, joined a clan by 1.02, [ECK], it died, I lost interest in 1.04, but when 2.00 came out it fixed a lot of problems with the game I couldn't stand and I got hooked back into the game.
Tycho from PA linked it about a year before 1.00 release and I checked out the website and thought "man I'd like to play this. Too bad it's not out yet." I completely forgot about it until 2 weeks before release and Tycho had linked it up again. I joined the forums for some tech support on running a server behind a crappy router that was the cause of my problems mid-November, but already had a few guys hooked on it that started a clan with me. Since then, I've stuck around
Was a CS junkie. Read about it on something awful. Being a fan of starcraft (read the SA review its pretty funny) I thought I'd give it a try. Downloaded it and set it up on a lan with a friend. We played 1.04 eclipse for about an hour. Finally joined a server later playing custom maps and basically **** off a bunch of people for being a noob. Fun times.

I was to good at HL, I had seen to much mods then can be good for you and I was currently into ESF. (still am)
yet I heared mroe about NS on HL forums and desided to download it. The teamwork (which was clearly there in the 1.04 days) was great and building ruled. I played a few months on 1.04 and then 2.0 came out.
