Also new here. Figured I might as well post in an old thread instead of wasting space starting a new one.

Unfortunately, although NS seems to be the sort of game I've wanted to play for a long time, I'm unable to play it right now, because the school network I use to get on the internet with doesn't allow online gaming. It does, however, allow LAN gaming, and I was wondering if anyone here knows where I could get a version of NS that can play LAN games. If I should move or repost this request, please tell me where. Thanks.

NS is capable of LAN based play. If your running pre-beta just create a LAN game instead of on WON. If your using steam run NS and when selecting create server check of LAN.

Steam doesn't allow "true" LAN gamming currently. It still needs an internet connection to communicate with authentication server small updates etc. Data exchange is minimal, but to run NS you need to get steam and HL for steam.

These can be dl'ed as a cached steam installer, containing the steam client and HL as well as other MODs. Then you install NS. Wheter this would be classified as "online" gaming or LAN gaming I don't know, take it up with the admin/s. Also, I assume other people could read what your user account is if you have steam automatically remember it and others use the same computer which would be quite unfortunate as they could do some nasty things such as getting you banned from VAC enabled MODs(IE CS, DOD) by cheating and playing concurently with you(don't think more than one user at a time can use a steam account). You can allways get the password if it changed mailed to you and you can allways set the password to something else to prevent others from using it, but if someone gets you banned by VAC that's not "reparable" and shouldn't be.

3.0 b3 can be installed on WON but I don't know how, might be as simple as drag and drop from the steam install to the WON HL install. And if someone nicks your CD key on WON bad things can happen(they can register it at steam with their e-mail before you do and you can never use that key for steam) and they can use your key on WON which would give you a cd-key in use error if you are using it at the same time.

Think it through if you are not the only one who has access to the computer with HL on it.

If you have version 3.0 installed in your steam folder you can just copy the nsp folder to an installed half life folder and it will run 3.0 just like any other mod when run through halflife without steam.
