Chamber Icon Next To Hive?

<div class="IPBDescription">What does it mean?</div> Hi,
I'm still kinda new to NS and enjoy playing very much.
B/c I didnt find an answer throuh the search I'm asking here:
What does the Chamber icon next to a Hive symbol mean (as an alien, of course)
I'm not to sure about the whole chamber system, so how does it work with the Levels? What reward do the aliens get by placing that chamber (i think right next to the hive, isnt it?)

Thank you for your post

    Welcome to the community Basti.

As you likely already know, there are three types of chambers. Defense Chambers, which give defensive upgrades, and heal nearby aliens; Movement Chambers, which give movement upgrades, and increase the adrenaline of nearby aliens, and Sensory Chambers, which give the sensory upgrades and cloak nearby aliens. Now, coincidentally, aliens can have 3 hives.

When you drop an upgrade chamber, the hive "Keys" itself to that chamber. For instance, it's the start of the game, I am a gorge with 30 res. I drop a movement chamber. As soon as I do, an icon appears next to the hive, showing that hive to be the movement hive. Now, I try to drop a defense chamber. But, I can't! That is because once a hive is keyed, it allows that, and ONLY that chamber to be built. If I want to build defense or sensory chambers, I need to build a new hive, and key it to a new chamber.

Also note that if a keyed hive is killed, no more chambers of the type that hive supported can be built. Also, if I was to drop sensory first, get a new hive, build defense, have the sensory hive killed, and then go rebuild it, I could key movement chambers to that hive, at the price of not being able to build sensory chambers any more.

Hope this clears things up for you. And always remember, protect your defense chamber hive.

One other note, each chamber built (up to 3) increases the effectiveness of the abilities it gives you. So if you drop 1 D chamber and you upgrade wth regen, you will note you only have 1 plus sign. This is how you can tell at a glance how many of a type of chamber you have.

3 is the optimum number and are usually dropped within a short time of each other, so the aliens can get the full benefit from their upgrade.

Be sure to take advantage of the fact that a hive recently killed and rebuilt will not be flagged to any chamber. Thus, even while your team may only have 2 constructed hives, you could have all 3 chambers to evolve traits from. Just be aware that losing a hive is never an eventful situation; you'll want to try and avoid having Marines add another area to their spreading influence. Also, to avoid losing a chamber evolution outright, you may want to invest in storing chambers in alternative locations, instead of just stacking 3 in a hive. This is especially good advice for Sensory and Defense chambers; you can never have enough of either.

By the way, this is the reason why gorges (should) usually ask their team what kind of chamber they'd like. It's because once chosen, you can't get another one until the next hive. Teams often plan the order they're going to get the chambers in early on. The "default" order that most people seem to prefer is defense->movement->sensory. Different chambers first require different styles of play.
