Can I play on Won servers now that I have installed Steam? I find the number of NS servers very limited and I get the rr crash at the end of every round. I have tried clicking my original desktop shortcuts but they have been rerouted to the steam run version.

Of all the issues with Steam, I can't believe they've shipped it without Lan support. I play dod as well so didn't have any real choice because the latest release was steam only.
A quick fix to be able to play on both Steam, and WonID servers. This takes up some space, but it works and until NS2.1 comes out, there just aren't as many Steam servers as there are Won servers. OK, you have to install a second Half-Life into your hard drive. This is because when you install Steam, it changes several things, including .dll's so that your original HL will no longer work with Won. I'll give you examples, and you can modify as you see fit. Your original HL is probably installed in your hard drive something like this--- c:/Sierra/Halflife what you need to do is create a new folder in your hard drive and install HL to it (eg. herehl). During installation, it will want to reinstall to the default. Redirect, even if you have to type the name in, to your newly created folder, herehl(you can call it whatever you want). When you're done, it will look something like this----c:/hereshl/Sierra/Halflife Now that you've done that, go ahead and patch and install NS into your new HL. I've done this and it works great with UDPSoft's All Seeing Eye, Game Tiger, and any other game launching program you may use. I came up with this for my clan because we are still running WonID server for NS until they release NS2.1 and force us to go to Steam full time. So far, everyone has done this has worked fine for. Good luck, and happy gaming!!!! <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--emo&::gorge::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/pudgy.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='pudgy.gif'><!--endemo-->
I admit that Steam doesn't have huge amounts of NS servers but there are a few quality ones out there (pub-tastic).
What has finally sold the extra install for me is LAN gaming - my friends aren't internet fiends so will not want the hassle of installing steam. This would mean no LAN games for me.
Will still keep Steam ticking but will have my back up version!
Will post back to confirm all is ok

Last sunday night, 'round 10PM PST(usa), there were only 110 WON players on.... this weekend, chances are I won't be able to play at all.
Before you players who've had a relatively easy time with STEAM, or have been suffering with it from the beginning cluck your tongues, let me say; I appreciate all the hell that people are going through, dealing with the bugs and the patches and the code tweaking and on-and-on-ad-nauseam, but I'm waiting 'till STEAM is basically as smooth as WON (was), before I try coverting over. If this never happens, count me as another NS player lost. I want to PLAY, not get aggravated, have to re-code/console-fix things, or get told my completely valid CD key is in use by someone else...
So anyway, I haven't seen one yet but that doesn't mean there isn't one out there... please make an updated STEAM installation guide. Every day that this is hard to get into, I'm sure turns a few possible NS players away. (sigh)....

I'm having some trouble with the initializing of Half-Life. The first time I tried to do this, it said "registering CD Key with STEAM", but after a few seconds it stopped, and a window comes up with "Invalid CD Key, or CD Key already Registered on a different account".
So then it asks me for a CD Key again, so I type it back in, and i get the same thing. I try another old CD Key from a friend, and get the same thing.
I had already registered my first CD Key with STEAM, on the same account, but when i go to Update Half-Life, I get this CD Key Error.
I have already installed and uninstalled STEAM twice, this is my 3rd and final go at getting it to work properly, and it's already off to a bad start.
If someone could help out, I think the problem might be the wrong format of the CD Key.
(At first I typed it as "xxxxxxxxxxxxx", as a whole number, but then i did it as shown on my Half-Life CD Case, "xxxx-xxxxx-xxxx", but I got the same thing)... It also says in the message that "V and Y can look alike, as can O and 0"... But this confuses me because all Half-Life CD Keys I've seen only have NUMBERS, and no Letters. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
