<div class="IPBDescription">died to this a few times</div> <!--emo&--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif' /><!--endemo--> I don't know how many times I've died because of the commander's "Move to your waypoint" sprites, getting in the way of an important piece of information, like say that circle is actually an alien behind that wall.
Well to be perfectly honest, it probably isn't my leading cause of stupid deaths in NS, but I'm sure its had to have happened at least once. To elliminate this possibility I have taken the liberty of creating a replacement.
This file will remove that particular hud sprite altogether. There is still another sprite in its place (hudorder.spr I think), which used to overlap this one, alone it makes a great waypoint. I have tested this and I like the results <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> . Oh sure i could've used those red motion tracking sprites or something as a replacement, but I personally don't like them.

but i love the sprite. i was thinking of replacing it with just a small blue dot, but i never got around to downloading the sprite compiler. this works for the time being ^_^
If you've ever played the game Medal of Honour (any of the pc versions anyway), you may have found in the graphic options a way to remove the hands from all the models (for increasing perfomance I assume, and it made it look cool, especially the bolt action rifles!). I quite liked this feature, and tried to emulate it in HL mods like DOD (I wuz the Kar masta! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> ). I was reluctant to try this technique with NS at first, because of obvious drawbacks: ie- lack of arms made it harder to tell whether you were LA or HA, but that's what the HUD is for, right? I made them with HLMV (<a href='http://www.custom-tfc.co.uk/index.php?section=comments&type=item&parent_id=2838' target='_blank'>Get it here</a>), and it really wasn't difficult, just time consuming. But it was time well spent, and have been playing with them ever since.
They are exactly the same in file size as the originals, mainly because I only took the hand and arm textures and made them transparent, they are actually still there (that's why I never use the glow feature), but I think it looks cool nonetheless. If someone could take this a step further and actually remove the hands, that could make it an alternative to low-poly models (maybe?). Anyways I have all the models for NS 3.0 (and for DOD 1.0 too) edited, if anybody is interested in hosting them.
And here I am showing off my powers of telekinesis to Barney. He looks impressed, eh?
