<div class="IPBDescription">fun to do...</div> The other day i felt like being crazy, so when i commed, i started playing the game in actual charactor (making it real)
Spurting out comments like "Command informs me that we must retake ns_nothing from the kharaa or we risk losing the entire ALpha 4 quadrant"
"Our first priority will be moving out to and securing foreboding, covering formation, 2x2 squad 1, go!, Rest of you defend base.
"XXXX i need you to move out on a solo mission and scout out the cargo res nodes for me, use max stealth"
At first all the marines thought i was crazy, but eventually it became fun. It was much more immersive treating my marines like marines and not just respawning people, i screamed in agony as each person died, and tried in vain to keep them alive
"Quick people at foreboding fall back fall back, motion sensors show a large mass of aliens moving your way!!"
ect...ect... ect..
New marines eventually began taking on different "charactors" as they spawned in (essentially being a different person every time)
Each spawn in wave would consist of 2 marines over voicechat "THis is xxx reporting for duty what are my orders comm" or similar.
By keeping it immersive we kept it fun and interesting, our strategy was more of staying alive and preserving our "charactors"
FOR THE RECORD: we did lose, but those last few minutes were insane "COMM WE NEED EXTRACTION ASAP" "OH NO! BILL JUST DIED" "AAAH ONOS LEFT SIDE"
"JAMES COVER ME IM GOING TO TRY TO SNEAK OUT THE VENT"
"AAH WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE"
"........Sorry guys, command informs me that extraction is impossible, and im proud to go down with you and we will die together...."
"TSA...TSA....TSA.....TSA..." (chanting as the final onos/fade rush annihlates us all one by one.... almost brought a tear to my eye)
hehehe, just might be something fun to try, assume a charactor, play to live, and every time u die essentially become someone else. Play it like its real... ect??
it was fun for us

Copycat.
Problem that stops it is that you need teamworkh4x 5000
hint: hearing an ultra-compressed, clipping burst of static which slightly resembles a human voice that is absolutely deafening isn't enjoyable.

Of course, I'd make one entirely for Marines, one for Aliens, and Mixed.
This could be interesting. A bar or nightclub for the marines, infested tunnels and giant growths for aliens, no idea what to do for mixed.
The only problem is, it needs to be set up so team-stacking is possible, that way you could just automatically have people who join the game join one side.
It'd be like a chatroom, except you could remove someone's face with a shotgun if you didn't like what they were saying.
Anyway, it would need mp_autobalance (or whatever the command is) set to "0", and Friendly Fire turned on.
*edit* damn you spelling *edit*
I probably take it a small step further than many, though. For instance, I have a tendency to refer to the AE35 hive on ns_ayumi as "Alpha Echo." This confuses hell out of many people, because I guess they don't know the phonetic radio alphabet.
PS: Gotta say though, if I were expected to roleplay properly on alien, I'd probably suck at it. Trying to communicate with hisses and gurgles doesn't work too well, and if I just say words in a raspy voice, it sounds stupid, and I wouldn't know what sort of diction part of an alien hivemind is supposed to use.
The Phonetic Alphabet:
Alpha
Bravo
Charlie
Delta
Echo
Foxtrot
Golf
Hotel
India
Juliet
Kilo
Lima
Mike
November
Oscar
Papa
Quebec
Romeo
Sierra
Tango
Uniform
Victor
Whiskey
X-Ray
Yankee
Zulu
Yes, sir!

The new version of The Opera was made for UT2k3 instead of HL.
I'd take out the MMO part.
It seems really great! It would be labourous having to type all that out. If my mic wasn't guffed I'd love to try it out one day.
GRRrrrr bwaaar MMMffftt! Just doesn't work so well.
