  And then played HL (using steam) Atleast once? (The training mision will do)

  I installed Steam and I play counter-strike. Also, I read the instuctions on the download page.

  Where do you have Steam installed to?
  What is the path to your Half-Life folder?
  Have you tried a reinstall of steam?
  Have you made sure to shut down Steam after playing HL?
  Have you done a reboot after playing HL?

  you dont have a half life directory installed in steam.
