the new one on X-Box
OMG.. This game kicks ****. If you've only played the demo (I think it ends w/ the first boss) then you missed out, as the game gets a LOT better afterwards. You get more moves, different weapons, kickass magic, etc.
Tons of ways you can totally flip out and kill people. There is a combo system almost like a fighting game, which is neat. Also there's a large number of acrobatics you can do to get to all kinds of places (and also pwn people). This is real ultimate power!!!1
I love the combat system, it absolutely rocks. My only gripes about the game are that 'mana' is so rare you hardly ever get to actually use magic and also the camera is sometimes quite a pain. Other than that though, it rocks.
But man is this game HARD :X It's like the hardest game I've ever played. Save points are spread out far apart, and even the regular enemies you fight can kick your **** in no time flat, let alone the bosses...

I heard it was an excellent game....I hope it's better than Tenchu.....is it?
for some reason, this is the most important thing for me in an adventure game.

Nope, single player game, just like the other probably 90% of games.
But last night my friend and I were taking turns playing it. You die a lot. A lot. So if you take turns you both get to play quite a bit. :)
It is supposed to have some X-Box Live functionality to it, something called "Ninja Master Tournament" or something like that, but since my friend doesn't have Live I haven't bothered to find out what it is.
Nice, Real Ultimate Power. I love the first NG on Nintendo, sadly the new one's on X-Box. Meaning I'll never get the chance to try it.
1) The combat system needed to be better suited for fighting multiple enemies. For comparison, look at Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. Engaging multiple enemies was as simple as pressing a directional and an attack button. You would continue your combo, but re-direct it at the enemy in the direction you pressed. I can't count how often I would juggle two, three, or even four enemies simultaneously. In Ninja Gaiden, however, it's fantastically difficult to stop attacking one enemy and start attacking another. Hell, it's hard to stop attacking and do *anything* (other than blocking) without getting hit.
2) The acrobatics system is equally frustrating. It's so simple to mis-judge and angle (the camera doesn't help here) and end up wall-running instead of rebounding, or rebounding into a corner rather than back to an opposing wall... there's a branch you swing from in the demo - jump, grab branch, and jump onward. Except it's far easier to jump *backwards* than forwards off the branch! The game should be designed to make me feel like a Ninja, not like a gamer trying desperately to be pretend to be a ninja.
Maybe I'll check out the full title. The main character's voice also annoyed me; far too boy-scout-ish for someone wearing armor that badass. q: But I've been hearing a lot of good things, so... we'll see.

There is no tax refunds... YOU LIE! CONFESS YOU FILTHY ANIMAL, YOU LIE!!

I haven't played any of the previous ninja gaiden games but heard a lot about them and I don't think there are that many decent exclusive Xbox games so this is a must for me
Unlike most games, this one actually gets BETTER the further along you go! Yeah I know, its crazy, but I'm not exaggerating. It gets *BETTER* as you progress!
And the boss fights... the boss fights are amazing. Rather than simply finding for some silly pattern to beat the boss, you just have to be damned good at combat. Awesome. :D
Also its great to feel a sense of achievement to see yourself improve in your leet ninja skillz. For example, there used to be these guys who would come at me in groups of 3 and I usually died, and if not I had to drink like 2 health potions to survive the battle. Now I'm kicking their **** 5 on 1 without even getting hit. :D
I have to agree with coil. I like Prince of Persia's controls a lot better than Ninja Gaiden. In combat it's not a problem but trying to do wall runs and such is always a pain. It's like, if I move the joystick a little bit, I expect Ryu to turn just a little bit. But he doesn't, he always turns much more than I wanted. Also, I wish I could switch between enemies in the middle of a combo as easily as in Prince of Persia. I find myself just using some of the same moves over and over instead of combos because while I'm wailing on one guy with a 20 hit combo or something, all of his buddies will attack me from behind.
Another beef I have with the game is the lack of a combat tutorial in the beginning. Some of the stuff Murai told me after I beat him would have really helped earlier in the level. It's not that big of a problem though, I picked up the combat mechanics fairly quickly. The camera can be a bit wonky at times, especially in hallways and corners.
With that said, I love this game to death. Every level is different and brings new challenges and new enemies. Hell, I want to replay the game just so I can completely own the enemies in the first few levels.
I likened this game originally to "what Prince of Persia would have been like if it had focused on combat instead of acrobatics." And the more I play, the more it feels like that. Combat is really deep in this game, really complex. It's not as easy as PoP's, but that's because PoP isn't a fighting game, it's an adventure game.
I replayed the demo (again) after carefully running through the various combos I had available to me with the dragon sword. I took note of things like counters and throws, and really got into using my block key and some acrobatics to keep myself out of harm's way.
End result? I seriously upped my "intentional coolness" percentage, and I totally wailed on the boss (previous to this playthrough, I had only been able to beat him with the flails, and that was always a crap shoot) - didn't even use a healing potion.
Movement is still finicky and annoying, but if the combat *improves* over the course of the game, I think I might have to pick this one up. I like the fact that recent games are starting to get really *hard* again... the challenge is refreshing.
