Software Mode Not Supported By Ns

<div class="IPBDescription">help meh.</div> I downloaded NS today, and installed it right, it connects to the server fine, but when it gets into teh game i get the black screen and it says Software Mode Not Supported By Natural Selection. I'm not sure what that means or what to do, and all i know about software modes is that im using windows ME. can anyone help me?

Go into the half life options and change the video settings from Software to OpenGL.
In step form
1.Launch NS
2.Hit the options button
3.Go the the video tab
4.Change the renderer from software to OpenGL
