Is It Any Good?
I spotted it in a local store today for £20 and was extremely tempted.
But i thought about my current gaming situation... what i'm playing
at the moment:
Natural-Selection (Combat only due to lazyness)
PlanetSide
Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles
X2 - The Threat (Played the first training level and forgot I had it)
Jedi Academy (Fancy a Lightsaber battle? PM me Padawan!)
And then I thought about the upcoming games i'll be playing:
Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes
Unreal Tournament 2004
I'll be returning a PCi capture card that Windows XP kept spitting
back at me and possibly using that cash on Galaxies.
So I need to know what the game is like, is it worth ANOTHER monthly
fee? Is it newbie friendly? Is it PvP? Are there any xx day trials? Etc etc.
Any help in this area would be nice and i've noticed that a few of
my X-Fire contacts play it a fair bit.

Do not buy Galaxies!!!
x2= The most addicting game in teh w0rld
I just spent the whole of my vacation (1 week here) playing 24h a day literally.
I'm hoping for input from both parties (those
who have and those who haven't).
X2 looks great but i can't seem to bring myself
to throw the disc in and play it properly. It looks
like on of those games that requires a fair bit commitment
before you start enjoying it.
I'll TRY and play it tonight, but I think Crystal Chronicles
will drag me away.
More Galaxies input please folks

I'd say it's definetly worth the monthly fee they charge. Whether or not you want to pay another one is up to you. It's quite newbie friendly: I knew what I was doing by my second to third day, and two weeks later there were almost no mysteries. PvP is optional and mostly for people who participate in the Galactic Civil War. 30 day free trial when you buy it.
Bottom line, _I_ think it's a good MMORPG and a great game, but I'm also a Star Wars freak. Lots of people I play it with AREN'T SW freaks and play it because it is a good MMORPG. The developers are constantly adding new stuff: we just got a new dungeon and we're getting another, plus a speeder and two more rideable creatures, on Wednesday. I have lots of fun when I play it, and even if it wasn't Star Wars I still think it'd be fairly enjoyable for me. Of course, there are those who hate it, so get more opinions
If you play, I'm Hisad Kaowerve on Corbantis.
I presume thats the name of your Character and server name?
Is it devided into 2/3 servers like PlanetSide?
(U.S East, U.S West and Europe)
Whats the game like vehicles wise? X-Wings?
Galaxies is worth it. Or at least, i haven't really been dissapointed with it yet, apart from some seriously annoying people who pop up occasionally.
There are quite a few servers (don't ask me how many i don't know), way more than planetside. I'm Dance Commando on the Europe FarStar server. I used to be a dancer. But i'm not any more, so the name's wrong.
I've read about it and it sounds really fun. I saw it in the shop for £20 and I nearly bought it because it was one of the cheapest things there. Then I remembered its an MMORPG.
Where the only way to continue your characters progress
was to keep using that particular server, or can you continue
regardless of what server you connect to?
The answser to that will probbaly seal the fate of weather
I buy this game or not.
I started on Corellia, and then moved to Tatooine. And because both of those planets sucked, I moved with my buddies to Naboo and had an orgasm the second I stepped outside the spaceport. It is absolutely marvelous to be on a world with perpetual autumn and then a planet with nothing but sand, and then to step outside Kaadara spaceport and see a river, a lake, and beautiful rolling hills.
I then went swimming and fishing in the river.
Also, what happens when you die; do you lose all the stuff your carrying or part of it or none of it?

Whoa buddy, get used to MMORPG mechanics. They're all divided into 10+ servers, and you can never switch servers. SWG is one char per sever, but there are like 17 so you can have a bunch of characters.
If you get killed by a creature or something else not in PVP, then when you respawn at your chosen place, you won't have any wounds, but your stuff will have degraded (a little if you insured, lots if you didn't). The degregation of your items determines how good/well they perform (in general).
Lag isn't a (big) problem any more.
You can have one character on each server, but you can't swap your characters between servers and only one can be on at any time as far as i know.
Scams are easy to spot if you don't believe everything you see. if you see someone shouting "I'LL SPLICE (lowers how much it effects your health when you wear it) YOUR ARMOUR FOR <Cheap price here>!" and they're wearing new character clothes, and they haven't mastered any professions, don't hand your armour over to them, because they'll just disconnect and come back later and sell it.
It's a fun game in my opinion.
And not to completely highjack this topic, SWG is an overpriced, overrated, overhyped piece of crap that youd have to be stupid to buy. There are much much better MMORPGs out there.
and if I don't like it then i'll simply stop the account.
Does anyone feel like helping a nubcaek and taking me
on abit of an adventure to guide me into the game?
I'll be on X-Fire/MSN if you want to help
