Problem With Movement/firing Weapon

Hello, I am having a problem while playing NS...

Whenever I am moving and fire a weapon like the machine gun, the game stops responding to any movement or firing command that I give to it. So, if I am trying to shoot off a bit at an alien, I can take my hands off the keyboard/mouse for about 5 seconds, and I will keep moving in the direction I was moving, and keep firing. I've never had this problem before. I assumed it might be a resolution problem, and I've tried every resolution from 640x480 up to 1024x768, in D3D and OpenGL.

Any ideas what might be causing this? My system specs, if it helps:

P4 1.7 gHz
512 DDR ram
64 MB Geforce 4 Go (Laptop mobile geforce integrated chip)

I thought it might be a deal with the laptop... Not sure. I am using an external USB mouse which has not caused problems in any other games, programs etc yet.

Thanks for the help!

Make sure your keyboard and mouse drivers are updated.

And you are sure it doesn't happen with any other games? If so, it's probably steam related.

Happened to me when I was running ZoneAlarm. Try shutting down external programs (ZoneAlarm, any other firewall, Norton, AIM, MSN, etc etc...) and see if that fixes it.

Also, run Spybot and/or Adaware to clear out any spyware programs, which might be causing it.

That effect you are talking about is caused when other programs (Virus Checker, Aim, etc.) use up your CPU. Try to exit all running programs before you play NS. Only keep those programs running that you really need to.
