Some Rpgs....

...Any good?
Ok. A while back I got Baldurs Gate I + Exp and Baldurs Gate II + Exp with TES: Morrowind GOTY edition for about £40. I played Morrowind for a while, about 3/4 of the wayin when the fp ferspective combat really started to annoy me. So I installed BG I and am loving it. got through alot of the sub-quests and got some pretty good equip and a decent party. So i'm well on my way to starting BG II.
Anyway what I wanted to ask is, What's your opinion on the other similar RPGs.
Icewind Dale I
Icewind Dale II
Falllout
Fallout 2
Planescape:Torment
and is Fallout Tactics any good? Because I know that Fallout radioactive contains all 3 fallout games.
Also, any idea's on where to get them from, Online I mean, Game and Amazon don't seem to have PS:T or Icewind 1 available. Hopefully, I can find them somewhere in town. But I want to see if i'm being ripped off first.
Edit: I forgot to ask...What are the dialog/humour/npc characters like in the game?
One thing I loved about BG was that it had some genuinely funny moments and kept you amused throughout the game. Something that Morrowind sorely lacked.
Oh and thanks Esuna.

Planescape: Torment is just..... amazing. It's so deep and the story is absolutely fantastic, definately try it.
As for Icewind Dale, i've never played them unfortunately, but they're in the same vein as Baldur's Gate, so i can only presume they will be of the same high standard.
Alltogether I got
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time +
PoP edition Thrustmaster firestorm dual analog 3 (Worth £25 on it's own)
Icewind Dale I and Expansion
Fallout 1
Fallout 2
and Fallout Tactics
all for £45
So i'm happy with that. PoP only cost £20 and it came with the joypad so yay for PC World and pricing mix ups, (They were selling the game on its own for £30 )
Unfortunatly I couldn't find Planescape:Torment anywhere.
Has it gone out of "print", or can you still buy it online. I havn't had any luck with the online UK retailers I know about, so anyone know where to find it?
But anyway, thanks for your help, I'll be starting on them soon. After I finish working my way through BGII.
It rocks, definitely my favorite singleplayer RPG on the computer.
It's hard for me not to say its the best game ever, quite simply because the story is so blindingly good.
It is a bit wordy, and the Mortuary (beginning part) may start off rather slow, but after that, it is dominated by awesomage.
Not playing it is a crime, a crime indictable by Vhailor.
As for Planescape: Torment, I'm in the middle of it right now and can confirm it is amazing. Look in bargain bins of less-traveled computer game stores if you don't want to buy it online -- you should be able to get it for about $10 (not including any crazy shipping and handling charges), but I'd put its real value somewhere between $15-30 even after considering price drops from it being a relatively old game.
u've got tons of places to explore, follow the game objective or just go around
and do whatever u want, rob ppl, kill ppl, get followers, and much more.
The icewind series is getting kind of old and isn't as good as the Baldurs Gate series or torment, this is mainl because it is a "dungeon crawl" so you walk around a dingeon killing all the enemies. But the good thing is that it is almost free nowadays due to it's age, and well worth playing.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, is a great rpg. It falls short in many places, mainly in length, but it was a damn good game. Who wouldn't want a rpg with great graphics and a sightsaber. The rpg elements could have been better but still I would call it the best game so far this year.
Also consider Neverwinter nights, I haven't played it myself but I hear it is pretty good, except that there is no party, just some merceneries you can get to follow you.
The thing about RPG games is that Baldurs Gate 1 and 2 were so good that I don't think there will ever be a better rpg. But definately get planescafe torment or knights of the old republic.
Edit: also there is a nice mod to Baldurs gate 2 The Darkest Day definately worth the download.
NWN was terrible.
For one, it looks like it was made for playstation. The graphics are downright awful, it relys on low-detail / low-poly, repetative, boring, ugly 3D environments. It uses a third party camera control that seems more akin to Diablo or Gauntlet then a well-made RPG.
Secondly, it uses 3rd edition D&D rules. I absolutely despise these rules.
Third, there was absolutely no plot, story, or anything. Well, maybe there was. There just isn't jack squat in the beginning. Remember how Baldur's Gate 1 made you WANT to solve the mystery of Sarevok? Remember how Baldur's Gate 2 compelled you to find Imoen and Irenicus? There's nothing like that in NWN. You're in a city that's quarentined, and told to solve the plague. Round up Scooby and the gang! I played for about 12 hours and got into some jail or something, and was utterly bored to tears.
Fallout(s) were great games. Get Fallouts people, now!
:shifty: Supposedly there's a fallout movie in the making/planning.
Anachronox? Ion Storm's rather bizarre game... I thought i was the only person to actually ever play this game, it was a tad repetative, and the amount of loading was absolutely ridiculous (Like, change areas 4-5 times travelling from one place to another, loading each map change... and THEN you'd have to go BACK again...) but overall, the game was pretty fun.
And yeah, this is a thread for RPG games, never shall the name Di**lo be raised here!
Squaresoft games in all shapes and form, from final fantasy to kingdom hearts excellent RPGs and if you can find an old copy of front mission 3 for PSX thats also a great RPG (robot style) cant fault FM3 takes a good 20 hours to complete then you have a hole new route to take thru the game.
If you have never played FF id start out with number 7 great game has to be the best by far, bet some evil person says 6 is the best
As for other suggestions, heres a list of the games I either have or have played to death:
Morrowind
Daggerfall
Baldurs Gate I
Baldur's Gate II
Icewind Dale I
Fallout
Fallout 2
Diablo II
So any other suggestions for PC RPGs would be great.
Console RPG's I like too, but i'm looking for ones on the PC at the moment.
But thanks again and i'll keep a look out for Anachronox. But i'm probably going to swamped in Icewind Dale BGII and Fallout for a while so my next buy is going to be PLanescape if I can find it then that will be it for a few months.
It wouldn't have mattered. NWN repeats this "go to an area and solve four quests" scheme at least two more times. There are a few cool side quests, but not nearly enough to keep the game interesting. KOTOR is far better, even if you can't really customize your character (either light or dark, but beyond that, every character I've made that's been effective has always been the same).

Call me nerd, but the old text rpgs are the best. I find the ones that get the most satisfaction from this game are the ones with the best imaginations.
Also the rpg is still in the making, which makes nice rping possibilities. The world is getting "reconstructed." Everyone is choosing sides between good and evil (even those that are neutral) for the big war to come.
Probably the most interesting thing is that the founder "titan" god Rynn is evil.
So in the end, evil is supposed to ultimately win.
why did none of us say DeusEx before this???
gah, I mean, I clasify it as more of an FPS then an RPG, but it still is an RPG (well as much as any CRPG is an rpg)
Mullet: Play FFIV or VI. Those are the 2 best of FF(other than the new XI).
Icewind Dale is like Diablo, with a D&D feel(both 1 & 2. Story=nonexistant).
I still need to grab the 2 fallouts...poor me...
Still, they are all pure pwnage.
(I'm almost always up for a SS2 Co-op game. Unless I'm not in, or busy with some coursework etc....still pm me or something if you're interested.)
Oh and as for MUDs and other text based RPGs, while i'm sure they're all good and i'm no graphics **** by any means, I prefer games with more multimedia aspects.
Plus I'm looking more for offline games too as i'll be playing most of them on my laptop, when i don't have net access or mouse etc.
Thanks for all the suggestions.
Just don't get the sequel. Between dull textures, ridiculous technical issues, tiny maps, and a general lack of gameplay, it's just not that great.
