What will happen to counter-strike?

What do you think will happen to Counter-Strike. Today I played CS again and the persons say that "this game is only luck", they don't want to stay in the cs-community, they search alternatives.

So what do you think will happen to Counter-Strike in the next month? Will the player live the community and look for other mods / games?

What are you talking about? You mean in relation to natural selection? Or just generally? Well, if you mean just generally, then the same thing that's been happening every month for years now. If you mean in relation to NS, then alot will try it, and some will like it.

    -> Both.

Well, most people, including some of the devs, believe that CS is past its prime - that's just natural, I'm not playing Super Mario Bros. 1 anymore either.

It'll therefore sooner or later become another 'classic', with a considerably smaller but dedicated community that'll keep it up in the same way some people still believe Quake(1) to be the end-all of gaming.

I give it two more versions as massgame, then the playernumbers will start to dwindle.

i think CS will be the same for ages and it wont change, but NS will soon be the best mod <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->

The problem is, people won't like other things because it won't be exactly like CS...

I am an avid CS player and when I hear people talking about how the game is "all luck" it usualy means that they are saying it from the dead room.

CS will be around for a long time, and here is why I think that.

1.) Re-playability. Sure most people know the maps, etc, but you can also play those maps using only an M3 or Mac10, etc. Also the tactics used can vary depending on who you are playing, weapons you can buy.

2.) Maps. There are a ton of maps you can play if you want. I still like de_dust, don't shoot me.

3.) It is one of the first social games I have seen. Most of the online games before didn't have a deadroom. You died, you re-spawned. No chit chatting. CS had round based respawns so you could do some talking with your fellow gamers.

4.) Resources. If something needs fixing in CS you have a number of choices on getting help. This is more important then you think.

5.) I have played other mods, some I even liked more then CS. When I want to play I don't want to go searching for 20 minutes to find 6 people to play with, because nobody is on. CS I can find a decent sized game at any time of day or night.

6.) Don't knock the strategy involved in CS. Play a good team and you will need it. I know pubs are not like this, but I rarely play pubs. Private servers and matches can be very intense.

CS will be around for a long time, in one form or another.

... and if it was exactly like CS, they'd call it an original ###### CS close.

Maybe CS2 has a chance, other than that I can't see much happening until HL's graphics are so old it's unplayable, and that isn't going to happen, because graphics aren't everything, and HL is good enough to please.

Of course it'll one day turn into something like old dos-based games, newer OSes just won't support it.

I still like the way HL handles animations more then some of the newer games.

Which is ironic, because for many this is one of it's biggest flaws.

I would have to say from my impressions that Natural Selection is a more social game than Counter-Strike. But again, that's based on an impression. A public Natural Selection server may be the exact opposite, but I hope that doesn't happen.

I agree which is why I play mainly on private servers.

Any team game is more social than deathmatch, simply because there will be opportunities to relax, sit back and have a rest, in deathmatch there is no chance, constant action, this is fantastic fun, but many people just can't cope with that.

CS doesn't have spawns or lulls as such, but it has deadtime instead.

to pick up on what ROR was surely going to say, a game that really strikes a balance between "stay dead" and "deathmatch" while still keeping a lot of camiderie (sp?), teamwork, and sociality is...

    oh <a href="http://www.flfmod.com" target="_blank">figure it out</a>

Well seeing that CS is killing itself from within it self, i give it about another year till its completely dead.

How is it killing itself from within?

all games meet there match sooner or later it looks like cs has most likely meet the end of popularity, not unless the new weapons help the game  <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->

100K people were playing today, 75K people are playing at any given time. I doubt it will be done for a while, more likely it will be replaced by CS2.

Counter-Strike will be the first game in history to outlive its creators.  In some form or another.
  • HikeebaHikeeba Join Date: 2002-10-03 Member: 1418Members
I'll give Counter-Strike another twelve to eighteen months of continued dominance.  Then, I think it will slowly decline in popularity as comparable mods are released on UT2K3 and more people have the hardware to really run UT2K3.  It will still remain a solid online presence for some time, but not like it is now.

aye, it is a VERY social experience, mainly because of the readyroom. You wouldn't believe it if I told you how many times we Pt's would just hang around in the readyroom talking on voice comm and text and just running around for 15 minutes at a time, rather than actually playing the game...

Nope, Metroid outlived Gunpei Yokoi already, and is, as anyone interested in the console scene knows, <a href="http://www.nintendo.com/games/gamepage/gamepage_main.jsp?gameId=593&showMe=1" target="_blank">still going strong.</a>
