<div class="IPBDescription">third person reloads</div> I recall hearing some buzz about third person reloads.

Personally NS makes the HL engine not look like HL, a fantastic job has been made to have NS look very polished, esp making sweeter looking hivesites, and MT rings, not to mention the new GL, all the bug fixes etc. Third person reload animations would look pretty effing sweet, but I haven't heard nor seen any offical stance on them, and I'm pretty sure it was one of the things on the list for implimentation.

anyone have a verifiable account of what is / had happened with third person reloads?

    Take a look in your model folder and open a few up with HLMV. All the third person animations are sitting there waiting for Flayra to get back..

    I'd been told by Delarosa (I think?) that the devs deemed it "not important" which is a load of total lazy crap.

    Who are you to judge what the developers think are important or not? Would you rather have them fix the annoying shotgun bug or get some cool looking 3rd person reload? You owe the devs a lot for making this game in the first place, it's a good idea not to call them lazy.

    The public gets disgruntled when they don't see any action. CS team solved this by updating their main page every once in a while with some info about what's going on.

    I was playing my friend 1vs 1 in 1.04.

    This guy came into the server and told me like 5 commands to put in.

    It let me play NS in third person mode..

    I forogt the commands so..

    Third person commands were taken out after 1.04 due to the fact its unfair to people who dont use it. Third person view allows one to look around corners etc, without actually having to move and look out. Its like having r_drawviewmodels 0, its a bug that made it unfair for others who didnt use it.

    The developers may have deemed it unimportant to put in, but from what I could survey they proabably dont even know if they SHOULD put it in at all. I for one would be against it.

    Unless you are going to create the missing animations and write the code for the game you should be very careful to call the devs lazy, especially when you think about how they worked on this game non-stop from pre-1.0 until the latest 3.0beta and you don't have to pay a single cent for it!
    I remeber quite a lot of threads about third-person relaod animations, if you would have used the search function I'm sure you would have found some. The reasons very likely are missing reload animations (HA) and the fact that this feature has a lower priority. Personally I'd rather like to see a game with fixed bugs and without reload animations than a game with eye-candy but doesn't work properly.

    As for third person reload animations, some of them ARE already in the game, look at jpers while flying, they WILL play their 3rd person reload animations.

    they're in for all of the weapons, if you get HL model viewer you can watch them in your player.mdl

    Anyhow, once 3rd person reloads are put in it will change the game.

    every weapon has reload animation.

    There's apparently a massive problem with putting it in. HL player models are made of two parts, the upper and the lower, as you probably know, but with the Onos, Skulk, Gorge and Lerk there is no upper / lower divide since they're quadropeds. This being the problem. When a player attacks it plays the animation for the upper half, and the lower half is still free to play walking, crouching or running animations independantly, but since the animation uses both the upper and lower of the Onos body it would just appear that the Onos is sliding along if implemented.

    I admit it looks absolutely fierce, much better than what's currently there (Nothing?) but with HL engine limitations standing in the way, i don't think we'll see this soon.


    As to the 3rd person reload animations, it would be a nice feature, but it isn't really all that important. And as for changing the game much, i doubt it. You can already determine if it's safe to attack by simply listening for the reload sound.
