Hopefully the next version should help with the memory issues. Currently there is no 64 bit version. And, it would not really be the solution anyway, the game is not supposed to use 4GB in the first place

try to start ns2 through gdb. Once you crash, make a backtrace and post it here.
-
Checking the log would be good, like to check if its indeed the correct version of ns2 that runs and what mods are active.
-
Are there other games on steam where mods have achievements? The idea seems solid, but i wonder if its technically speaking possible.

I think there is one thing happening in the video as well. If you shoot something, just before you die, you can get differences between client/server. Simply because for the server, you are already dead, even if on your screen you still life. the ti…

Thats a valid argument. If you want the game to stay exactly as it is now with no more patches, then you dont have to buy any skins. If you do want patches, improvements, you buy them. Quite easy

Where was this previously reported? We really need a video of this, as well as the list of mods running, your ping and the ping of your opponent. What you describe is very different from what most observe, which makes me wonder if … -
A backtrace from gdb would be ideal to debug the issue. Im on my phone now, but hopefully somebody can tell you how to do that

I'm not a big fan of the ones with too much decoration on them. For consistency sake, the decorations should be on the shoulder plates.
Then they look all good, but i would not go with the black one, simply because its a little too simil… -
I dont think powernodes are part of the problem...
The problem is that people die without understanding why, that the time to kill is sooo short that no mistake is allowed.
This ties into the problem that higher lifeforms are hard … -
@GhoulofGSG9 What you say is great and there a certainly things to get this to somehow work. The public beta with rapid changes is one way. Having an official mod …
-
I think everything has been said already. Im convinced by my experience in software development, ns2 and ns2 playtesting in general that this can not work.
What i propose is a public beta branch and the public will be invited to special … -
Wow, i didn't expect to be thrown under a bus so hard in a unannounced public blogpost. Its always nice to see how people are thanked for their free work around here. And apparently we are finished on monday? What incredibly things one can discover …

Thank you very much!

Could you provide the logfile of ns2 when this happens? There might be an error.
-
Hm, it seems like its crashing in libawesomium (the webbrowser ingame).
I also found somebody with a similar issue from another game:

There is a theory that this crash is related to some memory usage issue on opengl linux. When opengl runs out of memory, it crashes.
Sadly there is no theory why this actually happens. Developer builds that enable opengl on windows do not see … -
Wow, thx for that detailed feedback

Yeah i had quite some fun when doing this room. I will try to work on my light… -

Ah now i know what you talk about. The main menu display of the hive LEVEL, which is different to skill. The hive level is purely based on your playtime.
So it only measures who plays more. You can loose every single game and… -

I have no idea what you mean by "first system". Maybe you mean that before hive there was ns2stats, a community project? So yes, hive is indeed the "second" system. ns2stats is no longer working though.
-
The whole point of hive skill is that it rewards any playstyle and strategy.
If you are a badass gorge that never kills anything but leads your team to victory, your hive skill will rise. -
ok, i tried myself at it.
I have tons of scripterrors that i can't get rid off, but oh well.
Also the screenshots look worse i think than the level ingame...

I dont see any specific error from the server or anything.
I currently suspect some kind of firewall or antivirus (which may integrate a firewall).
What antivirus do you use? Is there any firewall setup by any chance? -
Just a small update. It turns out he was running a TF2 server on the same machine that used the same port. Its all fixed now
-
Congratulations, you have an error i have never seen before. Its likely not related to the tutorial by the way.
So it seems like you have an application already running on port 27015. Thank you for that information. You might want to fix… -
Could you post your logfile? It is in %appdata% Natural Selection 2
-
Thx for the detailed analysis. Maybe changing the X input method will help me reproduce.
I use KDE, so i wonder if thats somehow related
