How were they terrible? i thought they went with the plot very well, Remember this really was not a Battle Movie..

150% - BEST Story, and it was very well done on the screen

Tigersmith, I'm fairly sure that "bad***" meant "bada<!--coloro:sky--><span style="color:sky"><!--/coloro-->s<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc-->s". So, you know, good.

Yes, it sure wet my panties. O_O.

Needed more battles though. What can I say, with the way they can make shootouts/gunfire sound these days, it's sechs to the mind.

yeah, children of men <b>was</b> one of the best movies of <b>last year</b>.

Clive Owen gets a general thumbs up for his recent outings and plays a very convincing role in CoM. Michael Caine is marvellous in it.

Meh, it was okay I guess. I really didn't get the whole immigration problem.

It was mentioned fairly early in the movie that most of the rest of the world had fallen into complete chaos, and that Britain was one of the only places with a semblance of order.

I know that's what they <i>said</i> but it still just doesn't seem to make sense.

That car scene was teh sex. I love how it was all one long cut, almost like from a first person perspective.

The whole movie had this whole HL2 vibe to it, no?

Dude when they were getting off the trains and such I told my friends sitting next to me about that HL2 vibe..they totally agreed

The whole "HL2" thing was super apparent when Breen ordered the Striders to pierce Clive Owen's chest with their spiked feet.

Or I might have imagined that part.

HL2 vibe possible prognosis: Post apocalyptic Orwellian dystopias tend to blur together?

I haven't seen children of men yet but only a day ago a friend of mine was singing it's praises and I'm going to buy it when the price drops a bit.

It was an amazing film. The camera work was sublime, the direction was perfect and it captured the atmosphere as a whole with uncanny ability.

The HL2 vibe probably just comes from the atmosphere and the camera work mainly; that real sense of worry and paranoia you normally only get from playing games. I find the film put you IN it more than most.
It's thousands of little things that do it too but all well thought out and accomplished... one tiny example is the way the camera followed one of the main characters during a battle like it was someone with a camera following a journalist in a real war... a bit like the roadie run from Gears of War basically but done sooo much better.

The scene with the baby and the army was amazing too.

Definitely one of the better films out there :3

Lloved it too. I liked the gritty feel and politics of it especially. The actual plot you could predict from the trailer but it wasnt as bad as I thought.

    Heartily recommended!

I sort of get the HL2 thing (sort of modern dystopia feeling...I guess the the major affliction applied to the human-race is HL2-esque as well). The people I saw it with (and I as well) felt that the movie should have ended 30 seconds to 3 minute earlier, for better dramatic effect. I thought the plot was going to be extremely boring (and in fact, based solely on what I read in plot reviews it sounded really bland), but the story is decent as well (some minor twists and stuff)...still waiting for the explanation behind the whole thing in the first place - I guess you've got to sneak room for sequels in there nowadays (that, or the tendency to be more fantastic with fewer scientific explanations is picking up).

The super-long cut near the end of the movie is one of the greatest movie <strike>scenes</strike> shots of all time. The two car-related scenes are good too. What's with all the Orwellian dystopic films taking place in Britain lately? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

I'll buy it just for that one uber action scene that lasts like 5 minutes. Also nice how the main characters don't need to rely on guns (something rare in such movies).

yea i saw this move a couple weeks ago, I thought it was great.

Loved the hl2 vibe as well and the whole lengthy uncut scene style of filming. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

I watched this last night. Really spooky. My girlfriend, in the middle of the film, just turned to me and said "This just reminds me of one of your games, like that Half Life thing." and I'd been sat there for ages <i>thinking</i> it, but not wanting to be geeky enough to say it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/nerd-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::nerdy::" border="0" alt="nerd-fix.gif" />

Except that Donnie Darko wrapped up everything perfectly even if you didn't understand how it got to that point, whereas CoM left everything all open. I liked both, though, especially CoM. The last 10 minutes were real good.

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec--><!--coloro:black--><span style="color:black"><!--/coloro-->...that you'd find out that the Human Project wasn't real, and that it had all been for nothing, and that everyone was screwed.

Meh, I kind of figured it would just end, without any resolution or anything. I wouldn't have minded.

And no, I didn't think anything was wrong with the baby, although a bunch of people did. I guess you guys haven't heard of slapping the kid to make 'em start crying.
