It has nothing to do with homosexuality, it's the fact that the movie is a chick flick. I never bothered watching it so don't take this as a given, but everything I've ever heard about it suggests a very boring, uninspired movie with the singular gimmick of it showing two popular male celebrities in a suppressed homosexual relationship. That doesn't scream chick flick to you?

If you've not seen it, how is it even remotely possible for you to classify it as a "chick flick"? Surely that sort of thing requires the prerequisite of actully having seen the film that you're judging?

Considering that Brokeback Mountain started life as a short story I really don't think it's fair to suggest that it only has the gimmick is of casting popular celebrities, given that authors don't tend think about casting something that has nothing to to with acting at all.

Frankly, it you think about the period it's set in, a great deal of the point is to chart two people dealing with hainvg a "suppressed homosexual relationship" in an incredibly repressive and bigoted environment. It's not about a gimmick, it's abot two men's lives and how they cross over.

I'm rather confused about your criteria for a "chick flick". Is it essentially something that's too insignificant for the male gaze to bother with? Or perhaps you MANLY MEN are threatened by the thought of seeing two men kissing?

It's saying Tomogachis are popular with girls
And also that girls tend to like watching homosexual men going at it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

    As I guy, I can definantly say I like watching the reverse scenario <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

Just out of interest, is it being suggested that watching media about homosexuality makes you...######? Or femenine? Is it contagious? Good God man, check my pulse.

What puts me off about brokeback mountain is simple - the cover image. OK, if it were two women in the exact same pose, I would be somewhat more interested - but only because of the two women on the front, not because I would think it was any better a movie. I would watch the movie given a chance, but I'm not going to buy it because, well, why would I? Quite simply ###### cowboys don't grip my primary attention, but as I say, I would watch it if it were on telly. I'm curious! As to how good a movie it is, I mean.

I saw Brokeback Mountain, and it's not really a chick flick; there was a definite lack of Hugh Grant.

It's pretty dark, chick flicks aren't dark.

Well, I never. I was just going to slap him around a bit, maybe cut off a finger or two, but your insinuation is much meaner. Where's the line nowadays, does it even exist anymore?

Tamagotchis? Crap. Old Pokemon games for the Game Boy? Win.

My friends and I are working on bringing it back (well, mostly just Red, Blue, Yellow, and possibly Gold and Silver versions). Incidentally, does anyone have an old gold or silver version they don't want? Mine won't let me save my game anymore.
