heh, thanks <b>Shockwave</b> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />. So I figgure I will jsut keep on working on teaching my self stuff. I probably should go for CCNA as I really don't have much of a background (hey, I can get a home network up and running, keep it relatively secure, but that is about the scope of my skills).

    again, thnaks <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

    Software Engineer for Raytheon.

I'm recently out of college with a computer science degree so I can confidently say if you stick with the major it's worth it. CS enrollments have been droppingand the demand for jobs is rising. Outsourcing isn't as big an issue of a lot of people make it for software. Smaller companies can't outsource and any classified work obviously can't be outsourced. So anyone getting a CS degree in the next 5 years (longer if enrollments continue to drop) would be in good shape.

That said, CS isn't a journalism or business degree, it's more like an engineering degree and you'll have to do the work to pass.

I also get asked to be clan recruited on a regular basis, which I resist because I simply don't have the regular time online to commit to clan level play.

    I think you were a recruit or something for C*B, you dirty liar Shockwave. Maybe just a ringer. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

Wow interesting replies. Seams like they were mainly old forum members (only judging by the amount of posts they have) and that almost all of them have interesting jobs.

Lower posters seam to either be in school or have jobs they whish they hadn't.

Am I right to assume that the high posters are 30 years and up ? Seamed like it by the way they responded and by the type of work they do.

The lower posters reflected being like 19 or very close.

Seams like only one is game or 3d design related job.

Am I considered a high poster? I'm too lazy to go back and look at my post count on the last page.

Well, I'm 23, closing in on 24. I was 18 when I first stumbled on NS that fateful winter of 2001.

    +1

    Conscript reporting. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" /> (Mandatory army)

I got tested for the 'special forces' as it was, but failed the psych part.

Prolly gonna go to uni afterwards. I hope at least. Have had a handful of jobs, favourite of which was a bellboy for a local big-shot hotel. I got to wear the monkey hat and all that.
    <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Ouch. I've worked with some Spetsnaz guys. They told me some pretty brutal stories about the going ons in the conscripted ranks (even made mention of possible male prostitution, believe it or not).

    I think everyone here knows what I do by now. If you don't, you're new. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

I thought piracy was limited to off the coast of Africa and the South China Seas now.

Freshman in college, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. Planning to get a job next quarter when my workload is a bit lighter; hopefully something involving computers or something.

All the stuff I did at the advertising agency I worked at was in 3D. The clients we had were mainly real estate agencys or the like, meaning they often wanted their advertising campaign to be about some multi-million dollar building they were constructing. My job was to take blueprints of their building-to-be and create a virtual model of it. My work wasn't as super-high quality as the stuff the professional people do, but considering I cost about 1/100th as much, they considered it a fair trade-off.

    Im 18, senior in HS.

I've heard some crazy stuff about the russian army. Is it true that the older, more established guys just basically beat the heck of of the younger/ less established guys?
    <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
It all comes down to using your head. If you know who you're talking to and don't mention you're from Moscow it'll be OK. But yeah, higher ranks get away with a lot of things. Worst is when they steal your letters. I'd rather be beaten.

Spetsnaz are THE most hard-core dudes you can meet. Seriously if you ever bump into one make sure to make him your friend. Mucho benefit at parties and bars. These guys can take on 5 (swear to god saw it with my own eyes) bald headed pipe benders at a time.

Yeah but they're russian, so factoring in the exchange rate that's like.. 3.5 bald headed pipe benders over here?

I don't even know what they are.

I'm a production engineer at a local television station. I'm the dude who cleans up your morning news/weather and whatever on local Hispanavision KCJT Television (and I don't speak any Spanish!)

My job consists of me also editing interviews for the local Hispanic community and editing our timelines so that each day we can go to the next seamlessly without a problem. It's alot of work but the pay is good.

I also go to college fulltime at Yakima Valley Community College. <strike>I help my friend Alyssa instruct others on the benefits of BSDM sexuality.</strike>

CCNA is overrated,i mean im not the sharpest tool in the box.
    and i completed it easily.
the real challenge starts at CCNP and up.
configuring them things and knowing the basics about routering?
    it looks swell on paper.
but it doesnt give you skills.
    experience carries a long way.
heck, i know a guy that got a degree in something completely diffrent to IT.
He got bored and tired of bad wages and stupid workinghours.
So with all the experience he had with computing and networking, he got a job at nice firm, delivering support for big companies.
after 5 years, he'd grown from helpdesk to fieldservice agent, when he got promoted to senior fieldservice agent, he applied for a better job at a huge firm, pooling some serious businesses.
    and he got the job!
Now hes living so stupidly well.
ONLY FROM HIS EXPERIENCE with computers/networking.
He had the confidence and balls. He did something with it.
    So experience can be everything.
    dont underestimate it
