Then of course we have the age-old pasttime of shotgunning your cat. Haven't done it to mine personally... But my friend's cat came running and sat patiently in our circle whenever we smoked at his house. Stoner cat, get a job!

What happens when you put tape on a cat <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/confused-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="???" border="0" alt="confused-fix.gif" />

They go crazy trying to get it off. It's like if someone puts tape on that one spot on your back you can't touch.

I'm pretty sure I can touch all my back. I think I can anyway.
Regardless, know what's even better than sticking tape to a cat? Kicking it into a car. Hilarious.
this is basically how my friend's cat moved around when we got it stoned, but we just blew in its direction. it doesn't take much, and we're just trying to get it a little buzzed, not wrecked. it didn't look nearly as high as this one, who looks like he's on another planet in his head. his motor skills kind of got clumsy, and he ate a lot of cat treats, and got super super cuddly.

That is not what happens.
Have you tried laying hand on your cat? (litterally, not like punching the poor thing) if you put a little wait on the cats back, or simply rub it, the cat will bend downwards of joy. If you put tape on the cat, it will keep bending down, and walk around in this awkard position.
Hmmm, crazy japanese people <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VRklgMjr3E" target="_blank">explain it best:</a>
Eventually this thread will end up with the kitty in cage on fire link! yes?! no!? >:O
That tape stuff is interesting, i'm pretty sure my cat would just try to get it off or something.. unless those crazy japs have some trick to doing that.

What happens when you tape a piece of buttered toast to a cat's back butter-side up and drop him?
Hmm, you took that a little more seriously than I expected. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/confused-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="???" border="0" alt="confused-fix.gif" />

There was a book that ussed this principle to good effect, ofcourse I can't remember wth it is atm. <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I'm almost entirely certain that it can be found in Douglas Adams*, however I can't find a link to substantiate this because the internet is full of horrendous plagiarists and all I can find are people's forum signatures or various works like <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buttered_cat_paradox" target="_blank">a Wikipedia article</a> that totally fail to credit the source from which the joke was taken (despite the Wiki article linking to a student film that was certainly made after the book in question was written).

Yah, I seem to think it was Adams as well. I know it isn't pratchet (however it is his style)
The pratchet refference you are thinking of consists of the Death of Rats ussing a buttered bread and carpet device to show the activity of Auditors (I am almost positive this is in Theif of Time)
