I know this might have been asked a thousand times, but the thought of Natural Selection 2 makes me all like a child - Is there any release date or any idea of a release date?
the logical response to your answer is " when it's done" <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> . IMHO, considering this game will be multiplayer only, it's not going to be developed from scratch ( NS2 will be an updated and remodeled port of NS1 with new features), and most maps will be done by the comunity, I think the game could be ready next year. Of course, it's only my personal opinion.

We have limited funds, so that puts a definite constraint on how long we can work without actually having money coming in!

its a reference to halflife 2, which missed its release date by over a year. basically i was saying it doesnt matter what anyone says about the release date, whether its a dev or any person on these forums. if someone gives you a release date the only thing that really means is that the game will most likely NOT come out on that day since most games always miss their release dates. unless its a crappy EA game that gets forced out the door before its ready. now do you want that?
wow KFDM, can't believe you're still using an NGE sig and avatar <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
and yes, i'm derailing the thread. can you honestly say thats a bad thing?

Here look at it this way.
You know the NS2 dev team just started working on the game correct? As you can see from the news they have only began to release concept drawings right?
still with me?
put 1 and 1 together, well if they are only releasing concept drawings that means they haven't even began the nitty gritty yet, do you honestly think they are going to give a release date when they haven't even got anything done yet?
Thats like starting a huge project that will take possibly a year to make, and before you start making it you give a release date on when it will come out not taking into fact people do run into problems etc that can slow down your project or what not.
so its not trash, next time just please use the search forums button.
I agree with Max (always!). It's not going to be a long development cycle - it can't be! The fact that we're going to do most of our game code in LUA is going to speed things a lot. There was a lot of "R&D" and uncertainty in trying to figure out what the core NS gameplay was going to be like, and we don't have that this time around.
Also keep in mind that the original NS took 18 months for version 1.0, and that was just me programming. Now we have Max and he's way faster and better then I am and I've learned something along the way, so we probably have 3x the programming resources on it this time around.
We still can't give a release date, but it shouldn't be years.
I'm not worried what so ever as to when the game will be released. You cant rush people into making a game, that has happened way too often and then you are left with disapointment. Not that this will be the case with NS2!

I'm glad its no going to take years <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
I'd love for a release to come out towards the end of the year, even if the gameplay is 100% the same as NS, and with say 3 maps. I'd still pay my $30 - so that means charlie and max get their money early, which would let them to work on the game longer, thus providing more upgrades down the track <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
Thats what CS:S did, its not different appart from the maps and gfx upgrades - and its even more popular!

Currently the art team consists of one level designer, one concept artist and two 2d/3d artists... one of which is me!
I pray that NS2 will not be released before it can get 90%+ reviews. No matter how much the game is fixed up and improved upon after it's release, it won't matter, since those initial reviews will drag it down. For example, Zen of Sudoku was reviewed when it was in beta (for some reason) by PCGamer and got an 83% rating. Imagine how much better the game would have done if it was reviewed in its current state (with improved puzzle difficulty, etc.) I think NS2 has the potential to be a great game, so whenever you guys release it, make sure its done! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />
secretly, I'm hoping for some delays so i can save up for a new computer to get back into mapping before then <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

@scaryface: Sadly, it's always lack of money (either from a publisher or your own funds; the latter in NS2's case) that force you to release the game in a subpar state. From both the developers' and consumers' standpoints, it's better to release a nearly finished game than not to release one at all. Although the devs may get some bad publicity, they still need to eat... Of course, if the devs have practically infinite funds and a good reputation (I'm looking at you Blizzard), they can afford to cancel a game and keeping their reputation good is a higher priority.
