why do people insist on turning this into some ridiculous argument? so what if you dont like it because its not real enough for you, not everyone looks for that and its not a bad game because it doesnt consist of what you look for. nor is it the best game because it does consist of what you look for.

Because...it's a topic about the game and people like to say what they think of it?

Anyway, back to dystopia: I tried one of the beta's and didn't really like it, I'll give v1 a go tomorrow or something.

this game has the looks and features of a good cyberpunk, but it just doesent manage to captivate me.
    uninstalling.

I gave it a whirl and liked the feel, though it DOES take a lot of sustained firepower to kill someone. I'm sure that's intended, as there's three armor levels.

the playstyle feels like Planetside a little.

Considering the exchange rate, however, your 7 canadian bullets are equivalent to only .7 american bullets

I downloaded it and installed it but had some trouble running it since I was too lazy to wait for HL2 to update all the way. Perhaps I'll let it update one afternoon and it'll work for me. Old versions of the game were neat but I got tired of the bottleneck on that map. Looking forward to trying the new version.

    I love this game. It's like Quake3's and Counterstrike's ******* child. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

People fear my heavy class rocket launcher. Those pictures you end up with after nuking a target are hilarious. I should start saving them or something.

I don't see how it's related to counter-strike at all other than the fact it has weapons in it, and you kill people.

Like in counterstrike, the only differences between the teams are the models.

But jeah, it has very little do with counterstrike. I guess it's more like UT assault.

I want to like Dystopia. I always have done. But it suffers (imo) even moreso with skill curve issues than NS ever has. You're either 'lolzomgWTHpwn' or dying miserably, and there's often very little inbetween.

Additionally, I agree the weapons feel universally 'weak' for their effect. If the Ion Cannon nailed a target that wasn't Heavy every time, and Heavies could be the battletanks they're described as, maybe so. That's one example, but the look of the models just don't reflect their abilities in game, Heavies die too fast, Lights actually survive far more than I think they should.

But hey, it's their game to design how they wish, and I'll still give it at least a try. pZ Server maybe?

Medium class with rifle + mediplant owns all.

Can some one explain the snipertana thing? I am guessing there was some problem with the katana havign a onger range then it should have? (also, it soundsl ike it was fixed, but I am still curious)

I dunno, whenever I see one of those stealth ninjas run over to me (and lets face it, it's easy to spot them unless you're in a dark area), I just whip out the heavy fist and punch 'em in the groin.

I've actually done that to some ninjas that were on my team as well. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />
Their fault for running around me, semi-invisible, slashing air with their katanas. Freaks me out.

Light katans have been slowed down so it's now actually possible to turn around and kill whoever hit you in the back before you die. However, smartlock pistols in the new ver are almost as bad, since if you get hit by both flares your lifespan is going to be short.

I finally got it up and running last night.

I have fallen in love with Lights with leg boosters. There is just always something fun about being where no one expects you to be. Combine that with wired reflexes and a TAC scanner and I am just a happy camper <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

As a quick note, do people actually use sound suppressors? I have been pondering using the SWT thingy.

And yes, Killing inviz ninjas is not that hard. Unloading a shotgun into them as they charge straight at me is just fun <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

I use sound supression all the time as a Light. Running around the vents in undermine is too noisy <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

Sound suppression + stealth = "WTH WHY AM I DYANG D:"
  • ThansalThansal The New Scum Join Date: 2002-08-22 Member: 1215Members, Constellation
yah, if a decent amount of people actually use sound suppressors then SWT is basically useless to me. I tend to rely to much on my cyber senses, and the only one that can't be 'tricked' is TAC (as it gives you the least amount of info for your NRG)

But yes, dystopia is fantastic and with the new maps there is no excause for you not playing this mod other then the fact you are used to memorzing weapon scatters so you can get headshots in CS.

Man, they changed Fortress a LOT. Its like a total rebuild, but basically the same layout.

Being able to pick up energy from people you kill in Cyberspace is very very nice. I'm so happy about that.

What implants do you guys use? I use Enhanced Cyberdeck, Thermal Vision, Stealth, Wired Reflexes, and SCS.

Edit: I guess I should also say I play a Light with the Boltgun.

I use heavy + ion cannon + thermals, leg boosters.

    If you wallstrafe with leg boosters you go about 3x faster. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":0" border="0" alt="wow.gif" />

No offense to you guys, but I don't really understand the point of primarily playing a Heavy in a cyberpunk game with a fairly heavy emphasis on Cyberspace.
