Before I stared work on my Uskaarj RTS mod for UT and UT2k4 I was a big fan of the DK and DK2 game when they first came out one of my main gripes was that there was no ability to make mods or custom stuff for Dungeon Keeper and Dungeon keeper 2. recently one of my friends of mine told me about an open source Dungeon keeper type game that is being worked on.

Just thought other NS fans that where fans of the old DK games would like to check it out.

They are still getting the core of their game engine done and have temp models working.
I played their first beta and it brought so many memories back of playing Dungeon Keeper on my old laptop <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

oh yeah!
i loved Dungeon Keeper2
the only thing that prevents me from playing it (i have the disks here)
is the random crashes.
buggy software ftl.
the random crashes gets really annoying on the last singleplayer levels.
since they take ages to complete <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

I think it was sometime around 2002 they put out a patch for Dungeon keeper 2 that not only makes it so you can play DK2 on win2000 but also fixed alot of the crashes. I did not get dk2 until they added windows 2000 support. Have you tried playing it with that patch?

The best part about Dungeon Keeper (or Evil Genius or Startopia or any of the other games like that) wasn't so much the gameplay as it was the humor. I'll keep an eye on this, but it seems a little like remaking Monkey Island without the jokes or something.

Well In this version they are looking to add multi level dungeon ability so you can have multi levels to your dungeon. And with the ability to make your own room packs and monsters this will be sweet once finished <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

Once again, it wasn't really the gameplay that got me going. Sure, DKII was fun, but I don't know how long I would have kept going if it was all cold and emotionless. I mean, 2 levels of dungeoning might be neat for a little bit, but after a while you realise it's just another variation on the god-game, with nothing to set it apart except for its lack of character.

but it was discontinued...
