<div class="IPBDescription">would't it be interesting...?</div>hey you mappers out there,

last nite a thought - perhaps already 1000 times thought from others - came to my brain:
wat if one would transfer i.e. the CS map "de_dust" to a combat NaSe map (for classic it would be too small i guess? could although be fun)? with only few lite at nite - or at brite day? don't know, i' not a mapping guy or have any idea 'bout that.

has this been done before? would been interesting i guess...

is this possible for mappers just to addapt a CS map to NS? useful? interesting? boring? sucks?

just an idea... perhaps you can give more 'substance' to it...

another thing: thx mappers for the aweful new maps in NS 3.2!!!!

cheerio

OH: should be this post better in > Natural Selection Discussion > Ideas and Suggestions Forum? if so: can a mod move it?

    Co_dust1 already exists.
    and it blows.
    severely.

CS maps are carefully thought out, for games lasting up to 5 minutes at the most, not the 30 minute classic games, or the 15 minute combat ones. CS maps just don't work for NS, period.

At one point, I saw ns_oilrig

Literally, a direct port of the CS map as_oilrig. It sucked harder than explosive decompression in outer space...

If you want CS maps, then play CS

Man, if U found a HUGE map , and you think this map works in NS world ?

But requied a alien infestation. added some more extra work for level design.

I have converted many cs / tfc / dod maps to both combat and classic style, and all of them were very popular.

de_dust was converted to co_de_dust AND ns_de_dust, and both were amongst the most requested.

co_dod_legoland2 (mvm) was probably the most fun map. Ever.

IMHO the reason why i like playing NaSe is that the community is cool and the CS people suck a lot - the ones i used to know. no teamplay, just ramboing etc... not my style.

if there are converted maps which server do use them?

just filter your map field to any of the cs prefixes...

    I remember seeing things like the following, but don't quote me on this <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

    ns_de, co_de, ns_as

And the likes... But isn't the combat scene also just about ramboing and killing classic at the same time <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

One guy did a total conversion of de_dust, called it co_dust, and added all kinds of new stuff to make it more NS-friendly; I could upload that if you all want me to.
  • DepotDepot The ModFather Join Date: 2002-11-09 Member: 7956Members
de_dust was popular as a combat conversion, but honestly was much to large and spread out.

It is much better suited as a classic map and has room and terrain to support 3 hives and a marine start plus 11 res nodes.

dReady, <i>Depot's Nutz</i> used to be famous for all of its hybrid maps. I still have them, just not running on the server atm.

    co_de_simpsons anyone?!? <img src="http://www.ibparcade.com/style_emoticons/default/thumbsup.gif" border="0" alt="IPB Image" />

Dude you really chat some hardcore bollocks. Popular? Among 1% of NS gamers and 90% of CS Gamers.

Yeah but Thaldarin, isn't the majority currently playing NS also not the same as 90% CS players? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

Okay that sounded like you said only CS players are playing NS at the moment. I'll rephrase my original post, the popularity as it stands as 1% of the NS Community find it complete and utter bollocks which is also popular with 90% of CS gamers which is also 95% of combat gamers and 1% of current classic players. That better? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

So what does that make me?
CS:S player, who plays NS, hates combat (unless it's vanilla, and then, it's just meh), hates moddedto crap classic...

So, come on! What does that make me?

ns_de_dust was a jetpacker's/lerk's heaven, the hives were perfectly located, even the "readyroom" was unique. If you can get past the "ns is not meant to be played on outdoor maps syndrome" you'd really enjoy it.

As a matter of fact, Depot's Nutz had a slew of Euro players on it frequently.

co_de_simpsons was an absolute hoot, and with virtually no ceiling limits another jp/lerk field day. The bad news was it was a HUGE map to download, and had a total of 31 files in the package. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

That does it, I'm uploading my version of co_dust for you!

This is ridiculous! True, most CS maps are horrible for NS, classic or combat. But a few of them actually convert quite well!
