The above is part of the Xzianthian Network. I was trying to reduce my telecomm bills and found this bit of unused space and bandwidth.

I know that when you guys launch new maps you can run into bandwidth limitations. I don't want to loose my domain name from inactivity, but at the same time I certainly won't pay for something that's not getting used for stuff that's just used for simple hosting. Hell I could get my personal computer to host that for free!

So here's the deal I'm thinking. Temporary hosting for free offered by me. The 200GB/month max is certainly enough bandwidth for you all I would think. And 5.5GB of storage is huge for your maps. This might be helpful and you don't need to register with me, just send me the zip, rar, or exe file and I'll upload it. I'll likely just make a index webpage. You could send me a custom html doc with screen shots to your design and I could add the link on the index, that way you have a unique folder and page for your stuff. If you don't have Frontpage I can certainly make a simple yet nice html page interface for you.

Sounds cool, still a little too early for me to use it (i restarted from scratch) but I'll consider it when the time comes. You should put it in that stickied forum topic "Need Mirroring?", you'll probably see alot more people notice it. Most of the sites there are gone/dead now anyway...

Well, waiting for new map releases, would take a long time. I think if you want to host maps asap, you might want to have a look at maps already released and put them on there...

However if all goes well, seeing things happening at this particular forum. There are bound to be some new maps about to be released...

Perhaps have a look at <a href="http://www.brywright.co.uk/downloads/files/index.php?dir=natural-selection/maps/" target="_blank">bry's map hosting</a> (which would be your competitor maphost along with some others <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> ) as well, for possible candidates you could host.

I've used Bry's multiple times to get files for my server. I don't view that as a competitor for two reasons: firstly I'm NOT for profit with and nether is that site (I think so), and secondly it's good to have your upload one more than one server. Bry's is also not widely known it seems.

I didn't notice a topic called "Need Mirroring?" It seems to be quite dead though. With the new rash of maps started to attempt to become offically included in 3.2 I though this might be a good idea. *shrug*

I know good free hosting is sometimes hard to come by. It's a kind of "virtual rent". You all might also be giving me a purpose for this area of the Xzianthian network. If it has a useful purpose other than hosting a few images for myself and friends and holding rights to a domain name then I'll not want to get rid of it to a little money. Perhaps I could host other NS related stuff too. Again if it's useful I won't have to kill it.
