<div class="IPBDescription">going at the end of the month...</div><a href="http://www.videogameslive.com/" target="_blank">http://www.videogameslive.com/</a>

I'm going to see the Yale Symphony Orchestra perform in this concert tour at the end of the month. I hope it's good. I didn't realize until after I bought the tickets that the Yale Symphony Orchestra consisted mostly of Yale undergrad students... I hope they don't suck, but I'm sure my tin ear couldn't tell the difference anyway.

Anyone see any version of this concert? Anyone going to this particular show?

Awesome! I really want to go to one of these shows, I just haven't known about any in my area on time.

(oh, and don't worry, just because they are undergrads is not likely to reflect on their skill)

No worries here. Yale has a pretty damn hot symphony. It looks like a really cool program; let us know how it is <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />. I wish I could see, but the only place in Canada they're performing is Cow Town... bah!

Short version: it was awesome and well worth the 3 hour drive each way.

    Long version:
Awesome show. Great music, great visuals, funny host. Great choice of music program. Martin Leung (the "Video Game Pianist") really stole the show. My favorite part was a Castlevania medley he did on a 104 year old, 3 story high pipe organ... but of course the orchestra was awesome. they really did the music justice.

Tommy Tallarico was kinda a prick at times though. There were a couple audience participation bits, and he picked a ~350lb guy from the audience... made light of the fact that the guy had trouble getting on stage, made the guy squeeze into a tiny t-shirt so a motion sensor camera would pick him up, etc. felt terrible for the guy. The bit was kinda cool though. Had him play Space Invaders by actually moving around on stage, while the orchestra played the music and sound effects =p they did a similar thing with 2 people playing Frogger later on.

Maybe the biggest bummer was that Square wouldn't let them play any visuals from their games! WTH? like half the music played was Square music, but the game company wouldn't let them show any game footage? Other game companies not only let them show visuals, but gave little intro interviews and other special features...

All in all though, very awesome. Another favorite part was the Civilization 4 intro song done by the full orchestra and choir. That was reallly good. And the finale - the last boss music from FF7, with full choir doing the operatic part... anyway, go see it if it comes to your area <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

It isn't Bach, but it's entertaining. He shouldn't keep looking at the pedalboard, but he isn't a master of the organ.

    That's awesome.

I wish they'd come anywhere near close enough for me to go. :x
