I need to find something in the Bible, a character.
<div class="IPBDescription">And I don't know where to look - do you?</div>I don't want to start a religious discussion or debate here. I'm just typing a paper and the bible would be a good source to use, if I could only find a character which <b>began</b> with doubt, and then <b>ended</b> with faith.
Does anyone know of such a character that exists in the bible, and where I might find them? Thanks.

I've yet to stick my hand into a gaping spear wound though.
Edit: Oh, and Saul/Paul. Started out as a Jewish pharisee (I think?) and was converted after being blinded by a super-holy-laser-of-blinding +5.
doubting thomas - that's me.

What!? You gotta try that - tons of fun.
'And Jesus and the disciples walked down the path toward Nazarath, but oh the trail was blocked by a <i>giant Brontosaurus</i>, with a splinter in his paw. And the disciples did run a-screaming "What a big !*%$ing lizard, lord!". "I'm sure going to mention this in <i>my</i> book", said Luke. "Well I'm sure going to mention it in <i>my</i> book!", said Matthew. "I'm not sure what I saw...", <i>said Thomas</i>. Timothy nudged him; "It's a big !*%$ing lizard, Thomas!"'
*edit*
Too late I realised I should probably have put that quote in some kind of context... Mr. Hicks is trying to wrap his head around the idea that fundamentalist christians believe the world is 12,000 years old, and thus is wondering where dinosaurs come into the picture.
I didn't know that the bible endorsed slavery.
Now I do. Now I can laugh at church once again. (Instead of falling asleep and drooling all over the powerpoint note storage-laptop.)
I must thank the Brick Testament.

I prefer offering virgin daughters to ravenous hordes of men.. but that's just me....and noah.

They're not ravenous. It's a city full of homosexuals, remember? He offered his daughter to do housework or something.

But... Us homosexuals do our OWN housework.
It's gotta be fahbewlouse, afterall.
But then again, Moses was converted simply by seeing a talking, burning bush, not exactly the time to doubt the Almighty.
He offered his daughter to do housework or something.

haha, I very much doubt that was his meaning - but hey, PG13 versions work well too I guess.
Whatever, I'm an atheist so it's all fiction to me anyway.

Well it's not like a big group of homosexual guys is going to do anything R-rated to some girl.

that wasn't my point; it was his intention that they rape his daughter rather than the man he's trying to save from them. The bible is full of nasty stuff like that, and I'm pretty sure this isn't the only time women are being offered sexually.
Whatever it's totally offtopic now, and as I say, either way it's fiction to me so it doesn't really matter.
Lot was facing an angry mob that was probably eager to lynch his visitor, possibly after having some "fun" with him. They would have been best handled with riot gear and fire hoses, but Lot didn't have either of those at hand, so he tried to pacify them with a girl instead.
Perfect solution? No, not really, but what would you have done exactly? They were real big on Hospitality in that culture, so letting his guest get molested and then killed was not a real great option either.

haha, oh man. It's clear we have different moral standards so i'll just leave it at that.
What do <i>you</i> think he offered his daughter up for? Like I said, it's a bunch of guys who like other guys. They're not going to do anything real bad to the chick. It's like if you and a group of friends got some 14 year old boy for a day. You'd probably have him clean out your garage or something.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
that or kill him and eat him.....

Nono, those would be <i>cannibals</i>.
Contrary to popular belief, homosexuals are <b>not</b> cannibals.

it doesn't matter that they didn't want to, it's the principle of the offer itself- the father lot (thanks for the correction) would <i>rather </i>them have their way with his daughter than some strangers he invites into his house. Wikipedia pretty much spells it out
"The men of Sodom sought to rape (in some translations, meet) the angels (19:5). Lot offers the men his virgin daughters instead (19:8), but the men are not interested."
I don't think "virgin" in this context is meant purely as descriptive flavor - it's implied that they should rape the girls instead of the angels, but don't because they are homosexual.
all this from a little comment - I have such little self control haha. Please provoke me no further!
e/ oh and wikipedia reminded me that lot also had drunken incest love with his children haha. What a role model - like there's anyway you can be drunk enough to have sex with your daughters unaware, they are in a cave miles away from anyone and some women come knocking each night to have sex with him? dduuuurrr

(actually, the post I had been responding to was asking would "<i>you</i>" do, and that was what I was responding to <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> )

Well, I don't think Lot was really held up as a "role model" as such, they just reported his story as a historical fact. His brother Abraham was suppposed to be the role model. Abraham wound up being much richer and was blessed by God, while Lot...um...well, Lot's wife was struck down by divine wrath and turned into a pillar of salt, remember? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
