    oO.

Well, I certainly dont want to crush your spirit, but:

Trying to play NS with joystick will lead to major suckage on your side. I played HL deathmatch for 1-2 weeks with a joystick just for fun and aiming at fast moving targets was near to impossible. And in NS you wont be able to use the ingame menu with a joystick, so you need LOTS of free keys on your joystick or use the mouse for just the menu.

Anyway to setup the joystick without using a keyboard just launch NS, then go to the controls tab (using your mouse), enable joystick look, double click )with your mouse) on the key you want to change and press the button on your joystick. DONE!

But why the hell do you need a manual on how to setup hl/ns controls without using a keyboard <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/confused-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="???" border="0" alt="confused-fix.gif" />
First of all, the real challenge is usually "how to do xyz without using a mouse".
And secondly you are writing in a forum, so unless you are using some weird point and click interface, that emulates a keyboard you are bound to own a keyboard.

Edit: I better quote your question or noone is going to believe me:

    Yet another Edit:
As usual: maybe a little info about the actual problem would be nice. Something like:
-Windows does/does not detect my joystick.
-Although my joystick is detected by windows, NS does not register button strokes, when I try to change the key-configuration.
-I am using the following driver for my joystick
-I have X gamecontrollers installed, could this cause my problem etc etc etc
-Although I managed to change the keyconfig so it uses joystickbuttons, the controls do not work ingame

You might want to try out <a href="http://www.electracode.com/4/joy2key/JoyToKey%20English%20Version.htm" target="_blank">Joy2Key</a> . What it does is emulate key presses with the joystick buttons.
