Awesome, I'd love to try that course and fail horribly... He's taking his sweet time half-way through the video. His lungs are probably filled with blood.

If Japan had a real military, and they were all required to do that... The world would be screwed. Because with an army of ninja's to acompany the 40 story tall mechs that they have stored away underground (come on, you know it's true!), nothing could stop them!
Not only does he make one awesome epic recovery maneuver, but he does while looking DAMN good in a suit. This man, but a mere real estate agent, is the true hero of the show.
I honestly believe that I could do most of that obstacle course. I'm serious. With a week or so of practice I could get through most of it. I'm nimble and I have good upper body strength.
Except that end bit. Holy crap, that was like 50m straight up.

I don't believe they're allowed to practice the course before hand, a lot of people would probably complete it if that were the case.
70 feet up: <!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Stage Four
The Fourth Stage is the hardest stage of them all. With a mere thirty seconds on the clock, a forty foot high wall and a thirty foot long rope above it, this stage eliminates virtually all remaining competitors. The Fourth Stage places the participant between two walls, one on either side. Competitors must place one hand and foot on either wall and push themselves up forty feet. At that point, they grab a rope and rope climb the remaining thirty feet to reach the ultimate goal. Only two men have ever accomplished this formidable task: Kazuhiko Akiyama and Makoto Nagano. A 2 million yen cash prize is awarded to the winner.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

The parts that look the most physically difficult as opposed to difficult because of the technique involved are the ones derived from rock-climbing (if you don't have the hang grip strength, you just cannot complete the obstacle). I work with a guy who's been climbing for most of his adult life, and have gone with him a few times. That part where he moves sideways, hanging only by his fingers? That is EXTREMELY difficult. The only way you can get your fingers to simply hang like that while your upper body levers itself up and down, side to side, is from years of grip work and climbing practice. I'm a strong mfer but I doubt I could do that for even a few feet. I doubt I could make even one movement with my hand before falling. lol
edit: upon closer inspection, it seems the ledge you can hold with your fingers is a liiiiiiittle wider than I thought. Still hard, but not impossible. I thought you could only fit like, a little more than your fingertips.

I've done a lot of rock climbing and abseiling so I know how important finger strength is for that kind of thing. I think I'd be capable after a lot of practice and sore forearms.
