Alien blood sprayed on marines stays even after you respawn, also so does bite marks / scars and tears in the clothing and armour.
Same could go for kharaa, bullet holes, knife scars (even though they heal but meh justification isnt important to me) perhaps even bits of marine armour sticking out of mouths <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
would make for a very interesting ready room at the end of a round! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
Some marines completely covered in a yellow and green ooze substance while the ones that didnt do so well covered in tears and scars <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> etc think starship troopers ...

sorry dude, but thats stupid. when a marine dies, he isnt "resurrected", a new marine is teleported in from a nearby TSA starship, and comes out if the infantry portal. its not the same marine, its a brand new rookie.
its even sillier with aliens. if your onos got shot heaps then dies, you're respawned as.... as skulk!!!
even if you die as a skulk, its a BRAND NEW TOTALLY DIFFERENT SKULK that comes out of the hive. the old skulk is still a mangled gooey heap of flesh in a corridor somewhere....
maybe you could do this with redemption, but thats it.
like a say in the thread im too woried about justifiying the story - which is just a big explanation to say " everything that happens is due to nanites so dont ask"
(hey guess what they aren't acutally aliens if you want to be so technical about the story)
Yes in the story its supposed to be a new marine new alien, but in ReAL LIFE ON THE SERVER the player is the same.
I guess a few ways to settle this would be that
1. The splatter goes away once you die
2. A total of all splatter only shows up after the game in the ready room
i guess if its just for the readyroom it could be ok, but it would be a lot of work to record all of the dammage that your player recieved during the game, and i'm not sure what impact this would have on the server, it could effect performance....
most people would be covered head to toe in muck anyways, but it could be handy to point out which people avoid combat situations, or are afraid to "get their hands dirty" so to speak.
i just think for the devs its more effort than its worth, and the time taken to code this could be spent on better things <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/asrifle.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::asrifle::" border="0" alt="asrifle.gif" />
