yes ergonomics can be quite the killer in space and should be taken seriously........ COMM we need more gel wrist supports !
i think the prop looks great. it looks kind of like its a structure that can be set up on the fly, with its light weight, rugged design.
the top pic looks particularly cool to me. it looks like there was kind of an open room (storage? open concept hallway? stripped equipment room?) that got a console array set up in it for emergency information access/management.
the upper example in the lower pic doesn't seem quite right to me though. it feels like 'so they needed to put a whole office in? where are the office walls eerr cubes? having a bunch of these units in one place seems kind of redundant.' i think it might be cool to expand on the modular concept of it. instead of having several structures lined up beside each other, maybe just turn a 6 arm pod into a larger 8 or 10 arm pod. having all the umbilical bundles from each unit feels a little out of character too. maybe if you go with the separate structures, you could have each structure standing on its own feet, and having the umbilicals meet up to a master pod which then is hung from the ceiling by a more bulgy umbilical bundle
the lower example in the lower pic looks really cool though. it looks like a useless area was turned into a information utility hub by this highly adaptable pod
something i would suggest for the utility/rugged look of it would be to make the bends in the arms come together less smoothly. the thing is that if the pod is supposed to be adaptable to the space provided, i would think it would be vary useful to have the arm length adjustable by some kind of notched ratchet system so it could be placed over a sloping stairway or something. mind you this would detract from the sci-fi look of it and make it more of a low-tech, barbaric type feel.

the idea of office chairs doesn't make sense with this big "claw" thing of computers...and especially doesn't in the black-and-white drawings of it on the catwalks... i think the chair should be integrated as a fold out from the main support the monitor is attached to... something simple that folds out and unfolds further to provide a back rest, but at the same time can be left folded up where it goes symmetrical with the main support and out of the way, like for on the catwalks situation... and then maybe pogo-stick foot rests and seat belts as the claw gets lifted about <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
maybe just 10 cc's hanging from the fingers of that claw <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

I think generally, people are reading too far into it to even describe it as a map prop. It's concept art after all, simply generating a flavour & style that I'd expect to see in game.
Will it appear? Maybe, possibly even probably considering the general reaction is 'Oh wow, cool!' but there's a big gap between art & implementation, as any number of failed mods with renders of guns will attest. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
