something i would suggest for adding an 'organic' feel to the weapons would be to add some soldier made art on their guns. im thinking green teeth around the muzzle of the weapon, phrases like "bug food \|/ " with the arrow pointing to the clip, little yellow sketches of a skulk claw, fade claw and lerk wing on the guns as a kill count, just kind of a graffiti type paint job on the guns. you could have the edges of the paint kind of uneven or jagged as if they were painted with something other then a brush (bug parts maybe?) and by someone who defiantly isn't an artist. get 20 or 30 simple drawings that can be put on the guns to give them a personalized and less strictly-mechanical sort of feel. you could split the gun surface into 'zones' where lets say the barrel cover is one section, the top of the gun is another section, sides, arm rest, front/back and draw 5 or 6 different pieces of art for each piece then randomize them on spawn.

this is a gun that i think looks cool and is fairly unique and is designed to reduce recoil (recoiless lmg anyone?)

<a href="http://www.transformationaldefenseindustries.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=12&Itemid=1" target="_blank">http://www.transformationaldefenseindustri...12&Itemid=1</a> (first pic in the artical

you gota picture the gun being held by someone who isnt wearing glasses though

I vote for what Dr. Fuzzy is modeling. It feels very Natural-Selectiony.

I really like the side load feel of the lmg as well as the length. I'm interested in what new things are happening in the NS universe if TSA is researching bio-enhanced weapons.

I liked #8 and #14 in regards to a Light Machine Gun. They tended to give the feel of a more futuristic light weight gun, almost like an automatic pistol.

also Dr.fuzzy's sketch is too similar to current weaponry - NS needs it's own design. I feel like sketching guns now. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

Well, I dunno, I liked just about every one of the guns, although I have to admit, not all of them looked entirely NS-like.

The main question is, will the LMG (and other weapons) look different, or will the weapons themselves be able function different? I'm all for a change in looks, but it would also be cool to see a change in how the weapons work.

I'm not talking things like caseless ammunition and the addition of a scope, I mean things such as secondary fire and additional ways to use the weapons, such as ricochet shots?

As always, thanks for the update. Sorry if that was a little vague.

    <b>Secondary fire</b> - it's not bad. I hope NS2 will have that, along with recoil. Oh, and no sniper pistol please. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />

Just made "Modular machinery" my background. Awesome stuff. The gun concept art looks very nice too.
    <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Ditto. This looks awesome. But I wish people would stop limiting maps to the same old texture and lighting. Maybe some labs or control rooms, with cameras that actually work! How about a waterfall in a hive room? Source does a great job with water. What about some surface ruins? Perhaps a planet having a mini-war truely goes to hell when the Kharaa come in and infest it. I just worry we have become... uncreative as a community.

Cool, sure, but not quite NSish.
    <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    What?! But but... I'd love to have a pulse rifle though. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

What about those Half-Life 2 Combine dark energy balls? I love those things. You could make it disintergrate skulks and bounce off onii and fades with knockback/stun similar to the effect you'd have on an Antlion Guard or something. I just really love those things.

I can understand the no gravity gun thing, but can we at least pick up objects? Like a damage RT is missing its "leg" and you have to pick it up, place it, and then weld? Or an onos can charge-push a large object the size of a car into a group of light armored marines and squish them, or marine can shoot a cable holding up a shipping crate which falls down and splatters little aliens.

I also highly agree with Namron's post above.

    Yes secondary fire
    Yes no sniper pistol

I know lol! We need more people behind this. It's nice that aliens have "+movement" now, at least that makes a kind of secondary fire for aliens to bind to my right mouse button. We've wanted to add extra features onto the guns before but it required a secondary fire and the dev team was like "oh noes we can't do that since we have some sort of belief that is doesn't fit into our grand unified design theory! Noobs be thee silent!" <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

And yes the pistol is an unrealisticly insane perfect shot that you can shoot fast like an semi-automatic. I can fire a real gun that fast but the recoil makes it impossible to hit anything that isn't close. The NS pistol is more accurate than any sniper rifle and it can be fired really fast.

How about making the pistol a secondary weapon you can substitute out if you want to for something else: say a shotgun in primary and LMG in secondary. (which on the model would be "attached" to the soldier's back; for a visual of that <a href="http://www.gearsofwarrealm.com/2007/04/10/video-of-gears-of-wars-annex-gametype/" target="_blank">click here</a> and watch the back of the soldier in the video clip, you may have to click on the embed to start playing) You could carry a GL and then switch over to a shotgun if infantry suddenly showed up. Of course if you die, you just wasted a lot of resources.

Not a good idea in my opinion. The whole point of allowing people to carry a single, specialized weapon (eg the GL) is that they are vulnerable. They must be protected by team mates, thus forcing teamwork to realise the benefits of the investment in the GL.

And it's not as if you can't do the MrMakaveli thing and pistol whip the fade to finish him off...

Not true at all rsd. Plus as I said, if you die you are loosing a lot more resources. You could make it so that only your selected weapon drops. Then guess what? Oh I had the shotgun out, now the GL is permanently gone. Wasted resources.

Again don't hate an idea just because balancing methods haven't been refined and you've never tried it.

I just realized something. The flashlight should seriously be included as a part of the gun model. I always wondered where the light from the flashlight came from in ns, and would like something that makes sense in ns2.

Really incredible update to concept art, I'm really pleased to see how it's progressing with attention to smaller details in the scenery and as you said; builds up the NS universe.

But to the part where I can actually comment (the concept art of the surroundings is flawless) is the guns.
Not all of them fit with the feel to NS, mostly not at all, but as I read someone mentioned the #12. The display and the form of it looks really nice, but only thing I'd like to comment about #12 is that the clip should be on the side. That's what defined NS1 in terms of the LMG, and I really think you should stick to that concept and try making that on the #12 since I find it the most appealing for LMG (ofc the more organic weapon-sketches should be nice to see in a near future aswell *winkwink*) Add that and a flashlight on the weapon and you have a winner if you ask me with just slight modifications perhaps.

NS2 still amazes me, I hope you keep releasing these updates sooner <3

on the topic of flashlights, i think it would be awesome if the lights were on the guns, and also the beam followed the aim of the gun. so when you put the gun away the beam follows with it

If you want a gritty feel. I like the idea of 'worn' looking equipment, stuff at looks like its been beaten up and thrown around a lot. Personally, I'd like to see the a new version of the old LMG, same gun, same style newer graphics + with some modifications. Perhaps the barrel could be 'sawed off' in the literal sense that now its all roughed up and you can see the metal colour on the end. The scope could be broken off / taken off (pays homage to how it used to be there) (if you take it off it could have screw holds there and some obvious discoloration where the mount was. Flash lights on guns are cool, especially if there is an animation when I turn the flash light on that I turn a switch on the gun or something.

Personally, and I've only looked at the one on the far left, I prefer the L85, OICW, Bullpup, and G36 models.

The OICW will be a major part of our infantry's weapons for a long time, so it makes sense that since this game is set in the future, it will fit in nicely.

The Bullpup design is absolutely timeless and irreplaceable, but since they have so little recoil and can easily accomodate a scope, I believe they are more a long-range/sniper weapon.

As far as the G36 and L85... who doesn't love German ingenuity/the British Armed Forces?
