Issues with monitor/video display

I'm having an issue with my monitor/video card display of Natural Selection.
I recently purchased an LG Flatron 19" Flatscreen/Widescreen LCD monitor, hoping to get some amazing quality Natural Selection on <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />, and lo-and-behold I try to start up the game and already had problems.
I was previously using an old CRT monitor on an 800x600 resolution, as my previous one before that had burnt itself out.
I was playing the game rather fine on the 800x600 monitor (16" or 17" CRT), but after I had quit out of the game and changed the monitors out (hot-swapped them quickly to make sure it was working), I tested playing NS and it messed up.
If i run it in fullscreen at the same resolution (800x600) it doesn't show up properly, and it just shows the background (and the monitor flickers).
If I run it in a window at the same resolution (800x600), it just shows up black. I then tested it in a window at 1024x768 and 1600x1200, working properly in neither fullscreen nor window.
If anyone can give me some assistance on this issue it'd be a huge help.

Assistance is much appreciated, and I will give any further details on system specs if needed.

Comments
CRTs usually run around 75hz, which most TFTs dont even support. If you change the refresh rate to 60hz (or anything else that your tft supports) you should do fine.
Also: hotswapping monitors is a bad idea, for the reason stated above. (you hotswap and the new monitor runs with the old refresh-rate settings which might even damage to monitor in question)

I ran my old CRT at 60hz with an 800x600 resolution (seeing as 60hz is the default resolution of nearly ALL CRT's), and yes, hotswapping is a bad idea, which is why I hotswapped and changed and checked those settings. I then changed the settings, reset, and checked again, and I was still unsuccessful.

Basically it comes down to RTFM, and set up your computer as it tells you to (the manual will list valid refresh rates and resolutions)

I know it comes down to RTFM, which is why I know it's meant for 1440x900 <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />, but even after reading the manual I still can't figure it out.
I just don't see why it won't run in the 800x600 window at the same refresh rate as what I had with the CRT.
Technology can confuse me sometimes..
And I should know this stuff with my A+ haha.
Thanks in advance if you guys have any more suggestions.
