No race against the clock = not a real time strategy game. The point is that you have to make decisions on the fly. You don't get to pause things to think about your next move.

I'm quite aligned with puzl & Talesin here...
1. Starcraft 2. Company of Heroes. (Just so well put together!) 3. Ground Control.
I've never enjoyed an RTS to simply play like I did Starcraft. SupCom I regret buying, it just fell flat on it's face for me.
EDIT: On the CCG Point, M:tG has always actually been a terrible one, simply because of the Wizard of the Coast "Must get you to buy new expansion" combination of power creep, new rules & elimination of older sets. Vampire : The Eternal Struggle (designed by the same original creator) is a much better game, a group of us play a few CCG's once a week.
-Command and Conquers (Now playing 3 ftw) -Starcraft -Shattered Galaxy -Warcraft 3 (only with friends)
Though that isn't favorite one, but one(s). haha
Actually, maybed SG would be my favorite. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> MMORTS

So if I can dance my little zerglings faster than you can react, then that should that that be all that is needed to win? I guess in some games it people won't have the skills to do this, but in higher level play, good players with high micro can easily kill a lurker with just a marine. Or lockdown 12 battlecruisers within a second. And so on.
I'll take a game I used to play a LOT, Warcraft 3. I started with undead. I played and played. I copied what the good players did. But some games, I'm at the point where I have adequate forces, but I would lose because I would be outpaced by the other guys control. It's not that he outsmarted me, but he just outran me in terms of speed. So the longer you play, things get magnified like speed. Then it becomes if you can match his speed sort of thing and less about strategy. I see RTS thrown around places, but in the end, it becomes a game about speed, no different than how fast you aim at someone in FPSes. I guess a CCG like magic allows me to just sit and think about strategies, more than worry about how fast my execution is.

Yes, I agree, GC2 was a poor sequel to GC. If you in anyway enjoyed GC2 then you really should try out GC. I cannot stress this enough. Such an simple game with really satisfying depth to it. Even the single player campaign is enjoyable and challenging.

That's like saying football is more about people who can run faster instead of people who can call the right plays. You're missing the entire point.
Very true. Ground Control was my favourite game when it came out. Every now and then I still install and play it.
Anyways, Starcraft: Broodwar is the RTS I 'respect' the most. My brother used to play it a lot online and in all kinds of tournaments. It has amazing depth. It requires tactics, strategy and skill.
But picking my favourite RTS game is hard o_O . If I want quicker games with a lot of kickass, I play DoW:Dark Crusade. If I want some hardcore bigger scale combat, I play Supreme Commander. And if I want sort of management/diplomacy/war, I play Medieval 2: Total War. They're all amazing games, but so different from one and other.
Actually, I also liked Age of Empires 2. I really enjoyed all the stuff in that game. I wouldn't mind getting some people together to play that game again.

I wonder how Vampire works.

2. C&C 3
3. Supcom
I only put supcom last due to its graphic-intensive setting.
C&C3 feels like a whole new game. Its great.
Dark crusade have necrons. Must I say more?
