<div class="IPBDescription">need games</div>Ive recently aquired a somewhat decent computer I have no use for and Im curious what games people would be interested in frequenting. Ive been playing alot of TFC lately since WoW is absolutely boring now, and Ive thought about hosting that but Idk if anyone would want to play it. Anyway yeah post here if youre interested, and if so what games youd want to have a server for. (preferably a HL1 mod)

    Maby host a CS KZ server, there's a serious lack of good KZ servers in the western hemisphere.

    The Specialists. Make it Deathmatch or Team Deathmatch (team is awesome but nobody ever plays it) and run the full map cycle instead of just Lobby. There aren't enough good DM servers (they're all RP) and TS 3.0 is coming out this month so there will be a bunch of returning players.

    That CS mod thing where you level up to get a better gun by killing (i.e. you start out with a glock, kill someone (or more than one) and you get a USP etc...). Can't remember what it's called. probably "gunmod" or something.

    Anyway, that's always a blast with a few people you know well. Not so much a blast on a random server.

    My server that I put together from old bits and pieces is sitting at my feet running an apache server (php + mysql). It's also got UT, Q3 and NS servers installed on it for me to activate at my leisure. It's handy having your own server to SSH to from anywhere in the globe.

    I'm not even sure if it's possible to get the original mod files for it, but it was pretty fun at some point. Failing that, while...NS I guess, I don't even have that installed on my laptop to play, though. Not really worth installing stuff just to see if it has a good server up...

    How about sven coop? I figure part of the reason you're asking here is you're hoping to interest some of the NS community regs to consider regging your server. Most of the HL mods out there these days aren't that appealing any more in all sad honesty. I've quit just about every other HL mod I used to play regularly, and now just play NS casually occasionally, because it's the only mod that doesn't feel massively outdated because it's the only game in existence that plays the way it plays. I'm more inclined to reinstall UT2004 then I am to start playing TFC now, if you weren't a reg in the old days it's REALLY hard to enjoy the game now compared to the new deathmatch games. When I play TS it just feels buggy, and even if I get over that it's too much twitch and not enough smarts. I'd rather play HL2DM or Sourceforts then S&I because the new mods fill the awkward gameplay exploration hole that S&I used to do. Firearms isn't fun, way to much pseudo realism ish. If I need pseudo realism ish I can play DoD:S.

    Sven coop is pretty old and rough, but it's legitimately alot of fun to gang up with a bunch of buddies and slaughter grunts with heavy weaponry. I could see it being worth it to have a server & IRC channel where old NSers can hang out and set up games like that with eachother. The great thing is that it works fine with only 2-3 people too, compared to larger mods where if we wanted NS comunity reg games we would need SOOO many people for anything to be realistic.

    I really can't see any new server for any of these ###### soggingly old games being able to breach in popularity from the established servers that exist in those games unless it comes into the game with a massive reg base that sustains the server's life in it's early days of the first several months it runs.

    2. If you had to pick a mod other than NS... I'd say Hostile Intent. Yes, not many people play it, but it's the most intense game I've played, because it's so immersive. No crosshairs, no ammo numbers, no idea if those footsteps there are of a friend of foe.

    It's easy if you have a good router that allows port forwarding. I run my listen server through a very nice D-Link Gamer Lounge DGL-4300 router. It even have the port settings pre-configured for most game so you can just set it to that and tell which computer that should be to. (I have my router give my main computer a static IP address on the LAN to make this even easier)
